Last year a NY Times article announced that former Wetlands owner Peter Shapiro and manager Charley Ryan were opening up a 20,000-square-foot bowling alley/performance space in Williamsburg called Brooklyn Bowl. Gowanus Lounge now reports that the alley will be ready to open as early as this fall...and it will be conveniently located nearby Williamsburg's only other bowling alley!

• Plans for a Veselka on the Bowery may be on the rocks, as a liquor license for the Avalon building location looks unlikely.
  
• The 69-year-old man, who was killed after being sideswiped by a cab and then run over by a bus on West 57th St. yesterday, was on his way to deliver candy to Oprah's best pal Gayle King.
  
• A 500 lb. man is suing the FDNY for $5 million after ten firefighters, who were trying to take him to the hospital using a pulley-and-platform rig to get the man out the building, dropped him down a flight of stairs.
  
• Patty Hearst's French bulldog won Best of Opposite Sex in the breed's category (a male won Best of Breed) at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
  
• City Council Speaker Christine Quinn proposed a citywide network of water-borne mass transit, where boats could ferry New Yorkers from stop to stop all over the city's five boroughs.
  

MOVIE: The Brooklyn Independent Cinemas series (which takes place the first and third Monday of every month) delivers two shorts tonight. First up is Nevel is the Devil, where "a supervisor at a consumer product testing lab interrogates two suspects of a devilish prank." BBQ: Close out Popfest (and the long weekend) today with a BBQ at Union Pool. Served up with your burgers and beer are some bands, of course: The Orange Peels, Finish School, the Gazetteers, the Lil Hopsital, Surefire Broadcast and Titans of Filth.

Speaking of new venues...this one may not be new, but we're just hearing about it: Zebulon. It's in Willliamsburg (has been around since at least 2005 from what we can gather) and hosts every type of music your little ears could ever desire, including (but not limited to): jazz! Finally, a jazz venue we can afford. Zebulon may very well be the (more eclectic) version of the old Luna Lounge, offering no cover every night. Tonight Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio will be there playing a free show.
