Two years ago Michel Gondry brought his film The Science of Sleep off-screen and to the three-dimensional world of Deitch Projects. Good news Gondry fans, he's coming back for an exhibit based around his upcoming film, Be Kind Rewind. The film follows two childhood friends living in Pasaic, New Jersey, trying to make ends meet. A magnetized brain, a ruined video store inventory and a D.I.Y. idea later and you've got the latest brainchild of......

MOVIE: The monthly "Monday Nights with Oscar" screens teenage screamfest Carrie tonight. Was anything redacted from this Brian DePalma flick? Yesterday we headed to the 3rd Annual Art Parade, an event that manages to make West Broadway a little more colorful for an hour each year. The scene is one of surrealism and modern day statements. Almost doubling in size from its first year, the parade yesterday boasted about 800 contributors. The Village Voice has more on the history of the event, and one main difference this year was that the usual post-parade party on......

The New Museum wants us all to get lost. Well, not really, but they did recently ask 21 artists worldwide to get their image of New York down on paper for their exhibit, Get Lost. The personal viewpoints and maps of downtown New York cover territory that is both real and imagined (including fictional landscapes, utopian visions, private memories, and obsessive instructions), so if you follow one - you'd surely get lost (but in an......

THEATER: The Jaded Assassin, an original “fightsical” which prompted the Times to gush, “Take that, ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’!”, was a hit at last year’s Ice Factory Festival with its daring mix of martial arts and visceral storytelling. “In a mythical world, in brutal times, a curse has plagued the land ever since the chosen ones infuriated the gods. It is up to one non-pureblood to end the curse and end the misery that has......

It looks like the Drawing Center will actually get an extreme downtown space. The Drawing Center is in talks to build a space where the Fulton Fish Market once was. The deal, as reported by the NY Times, is "far from a done deal," but Gothamist supposes being on the other side of the lower tip of Manhattan is far enough from the World Trader Center not to "denigrate" it. The South Street space......

On Sundays, Gothamist publishes reviews by its contributors and friends. The opinions belong only to the author, who once again, in this case, is me. Pop-up stores seem to be the latest rage in New York City retailing. This trend involves a major brand coming into town, renting a large retail space for a month or two, and creating a "retail experience" to promote their brand. For instance, in September, the Illy coffee company opened......

Fashionistas and music snobs descend upon the city over the next week with both CMJ and Fashion Week starting. We'll most likely only be attending the former. Before it begins though, we'll ease into the hectic schedule with a few of the following events...even if we should be resting up for the week ahead. PARADE: Some downtown blocks will play host to The Art Parade this weekend, with artists parading toward Soho on foot and......

After seeing Being John Malkovich, who didn’t consider what it might be like to be Malkovich. Okay, maybe not. But you probably never thought about this either, John Malkovich – clothing designer. That’s right John has fallen in line with J-Lo, Sean Coombs and a host of others who believe they can cross-over from entertainer to fashion design diva. His clothing line goes under the moniker, Uncle Kimono and it seems that Malkovich documented......

The city is no longer awash in saffron, but we promise there is still a lot to do this weekend... COMEDY: The "Dark Side of the Moon" Show: Buy, Beg, Borrow or Steal starts tonight at the UCB Theater. This totally psychadelic and surreal theater experience pokes fun at the popular rumor that The Wizard of OZ syncs up perfectly with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon (it DOES. Instructions: wait for the 3rd......
