Channel 13 Opens New Studio At Lincoln Center

Today, WNET.org—the parent company of Channel 13 as well as WLIW Channel 21—opened new street-level studios at Lincoln Center today. The new, glassy space, at Broadway and West 66th Street, will give passers-by and public broadcasting nerds a chance to see tapings of shows. WNET CEO and President Neal Shapiro told the NY Times, "This is truly a metaphor for what we want to be in New York. We want to be transparent about the things we do and we want to be facing out to the public. Here we are in the center of arts and culture." more ›

Noteworthy Television This Week: Whoo! Whoo!

Noteworthy Television This Week: Whoo! Whoo!

Thankfully NBC’s new version of the classically cheesy 1980s show Knight Rider (Sunday 9:00 p.m., WNBC 4) is not a remake, but a continuation of the old in this two hour movie/back door pilot. Of course, this means there are some changes, such as the presence of David Hasslehoff being reduced to a cameo, the two leads are ex-soap stars (the way the Hoff was), and horror of horrors KITT isn’t a Trans Am anymore thanks to a deal between NBC and Ford that product places a Mustang as the talking car (and Trans Ams aren't made anymore anyway). It has all the makings, save for being relatively Hoff-free, of being so bad it is good. more ›

We should note that CBS only made a seven episode commitment to the show, in a move that seems more like hedging their bets instead of anything that has to do with the WGA strike. more ›

Noteworthy Television Tonight: The Jews of New York

Noteworthy Television Tonight: The Jews of New York

The Jews of New York (Sunday, 8:00 p.m., WLIW; Thursday, 9:00 p.m., Thirteen) Ed Koch, Russ & Daughters Appetizers, Mount Sinai Hospital, and the creative team behind Fiddler on the Roof are profiled in this one hour overview of the history and impact of the Jewish community in New York. The show has some great New York City history content, although it seemed like it should have been a bit longer so they could get a bit more in. Still it is an interesting look at the contributions of New York’s Jewish community through the years. more ›
