The fourth annual DigitalLife event kicks off today at the Javits Center. Featuring over 200 exhibitors, it is easily the best preview of digital gadgetry coming to life in the fall quarter. Today saw new product releases from Palm (with the Centro - a $99 Treo follow up targeted to new smart phone users exclusive to Sprint), iRobot (new cleaning robots!) , Gateway (a sleek new all-in-one called "One"), and Microsoft (Extenders for Windows Media Center).

What is the lawsuit about, Kenneth?

Thank goodness for good neighbors! There's a fascinating story behind the arrest of Asuncion DeJesus-Garcia, who is suspected of at least three sexual assaults in the Lower East Side and East Village. It turns out that the two people who noticed him on Wednesday actually recognized him because they helped stop the July 13 attack on East 12th Street!

Just the other day we drooled over an Urban Lobster menu, wishing we'd had the funds to dine on delicious king crab legs and lobster. If you've done the same, then this is the contest for you.

On last night's WPIX News At Ten, there was the most amazing lead story. The news team touted it as an "exclusive": The AMC Bay Plaza in the Bronx is infested with rats. When Julinda Lee took her children to see a movie, rats were all over them for their food. In fact, one rat crawled up her 6 year old son's leg and grabbed his snack cake! (The son super-adorably told the reporter, "I said, "Hey! No way!") Lee said one rat sat next to them, waiting for food. The Health Department had cited the theater in the past, though a visit two weeks ago showed no signs of rodents. What was hilarious, in the face of the disgusting aspect, is that WPIX 11 listed the citations and they almost looked like movie titles - "Evidence of Mice" - rated R! You can watch the clip here, if you have Windows Media Player - click on "Rodent Theater."

Tom Cruise met with dashing (in looks...Gothamist claims no knowledge about Japanese politics, barely able to keep our own country's goings on in check) Prime Minister Koizumi while promoting his upcoming Oscar-contending film, The Last Samurai. They apparently karaoked to an Elvis tune. And for some reason, reporters made Cruise say, "I think he's a charismatic and very intelligent man," while really, what else is a visiting super star going to say about his gracious host?
