The dog's owner, bodybuilder Milan Rysa, later claimed to police that he had been sleeping the whole time. Below, you can see a very sad picture of the dog in the aftermath of the incident.

The man arrested for allegedly breaking into an Upper East Side apartment and raping a 27-year-old woman inside early Saturday morning claims it wasn't illegal. Specifically, Assistant District Attorney Samuel David said yesterday, "The defendant made a series of statements that he went through the window of the apartment and took the victim's phone, so she'd be unable to call the police, and had sex with the victim -- although he disturbingly claims it was consensual."

A 2-year-old boy is in critical condition at Bellevue Hospital after falling three stories from an 18th floor window onto a terrace below yesterday. There are conflicting reports as to how Ebrahim Aburawi, the son of a Libyan diplomat, managed to fall from the window. The Daily News says he broke free of his mother's grasp as she attempted to strap him into a stroller, and "dove out an open window into a free fall." According to the Post, his mother was in the bathroom at the time, and emerged to find her son had fallen.

He was taken to Jacobi Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
Wind Shatters Midtown Window, Sounded Like Explosion
Yesterday's "explosion" scare was caused by a piece of glass—anywhere from 30 x 30 to 25 x 90— that fell from the 52nd floor of the Galleria on 117 East 57th street. The glass plane hit balconies as it fell and eventually crashed through a glass atrium on the 10th floor. Police say the glass was most likely pushed out by strong winds, but witnesses say the crash was so loud it sounded like an explosion. One passerby told the Post, "I was standing outside and I heard a crash. It was like the loudest thunder I ever heard."
Baby Tossed from Brooklyn Blaze Expected to Survive
Relatives say a Bensonhurst baby who fractured her skull when her mother threw her from the window of a flaming building is getting better and expected to survive. Three-month old Maria Maura Chan has had a series of operations and will undergo therapy for her sight and hearing, reports the AP. Her 2-year-old big brother is unharmed, since he was caught by a neighbor, however the mother Maria Chan was one of five Guatemalan immigrants killed in the fire. Demon-hearing, vodka-loving building resident Daniel Ignacio is accused of starting the blaze intentionally with lighter fluid and a roll of toilet paper, though he claims it was an accident.
Cobble Hill Steals Norah Jones's Light
How is this still happening? Norah Jones's windowgate story has somehow made it into the new year, and the Brooklyn Paper is reporting that the songstress may have compromised (so unlike an adult contemporary musician). Her renovation plans to her newly purchased Brooklyn home now includes seven windows — that's three less than she originally wanted.
Falling Glass At Goldman Sachs' Tribeca Tower
On Saturday, there were reports of windows falling from a Tribeca building, likely due to the strong winds, and now it turns out the building in question was the new Goldman Sachs headquarters at Murray and West Streets. And it's not the first time things have been falling from the nearly finished 43-story building.
Views From Your Windows
Yesterday, with a bit (a lot) of inspiration from Andrew Sullivan, we asked that you send us your views. Submissions came in from Kensington to Washington Heights... and we'd love to see more. What do you see when you look out the window? Send a photo and location.
Window Farming For Tiny Apartments
If you don't have a rooftop or illegal fire escape garden, but you crave the taste of fresh thyme and basil for your homecooking... then you might to check out the possibility of window farming. New Yorkers Britta Riley and Rebecca Bray created Window Farms since growing food inside New York apartments is such a challenge. They simply channeled the "hydroponics research conducted by NASA scientists and marijuana farmers" — now through a drip system made from recycled water bottles, they've been growing beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, arugula, basil, lettuce and kale! CoolHunting stopped by to get a closer look:
Girl Who Survived 7-Story Fall Is In Critical Condition
Yesterday morning, an 8-year-old fell out of a 7th floor apartment window at the Castle Hill Houses in the Bronx—and survived. The Daily News reports that Destiny Antonio "somehow tumbled out the window in the bedroom she shares with some of her 11 siblings," landing on a hill. "The little girl underwent hours of surgery Thursday at Jacobi Medical Center," after suffering "a broken hip, shattered pelvis, broken leg and trauma to her intestines and liver." She is in critical condition. The window did have a guard, but apparently the upper portion of the window—above the guard—"opened more than the maximum allowed 4½ inches," according to family friend Paul Miller who spoke to the Post. Miller said that Destiny's mother told him, "I can't believe this, that it was the same f---ing window that I told them to fix." The NYC Housing Authority did not comment, and the NYPD is investigating the incident.
8-Year-Old Survives Fall From 7th Floor Window
A little girl is in serious but stable condition after falling out a seventh floor window in the Bronx. WABC 7 reports the eight-year-old "plunged from the window at the Castle Hill Houses on Seward Avenue just before 1:30 a.m... The girl survived the fall, and detectives believe she is not likely to die." She is being treated by Jacobi Medical Center for her injuries. The window at her apartment building also has window guards, so it's unclear how she fell out. Last week, two children fell to their deaths from windows. The city requires apartment buildings to have window guards in homes with children under 11 years old, but there are no such requirements for houses.
Drunk Man Throws Cat to Death From Apartment Window
Police say Keyleste Williams was drunk when he returned to his 6th floor Brooklyn apartment on Sunday morning around 3 a.m., got into a vicious argument with his sister, and threw his cousin Lateya's cat Shadow out the window. Shadow's (not pictured) fatal fall was heard by a neighbor, who only heard a loud thump and told the Post, "I thought it was bricks. I didn't know it was a cat. Oh, my God." Police charged Williams, 29, with aggravated cruelty to animals, plus torturing and injuring animals. But Lateya says her family doesn't want to press charges because he was intoxicated when he dangled the cat out the window and let go, "We just don't want him to come back home for a while...I would just want God to charge him." Related: The ASPCA on cats and falls—cats "may actually be at greater risk for injury when falling shorter distances... Shorter distances do not give them enough time to adjust their body posture to fall correctly."
Thieves Leave Dumbbell Behind, 4 Sale on Craigslist
Looking for a new dumbbell, or perhaps a surefire way to break into someone's car? One man's bad luck may just be your ticket to toned arms and free cd players. From a Craigslist post this morning: "Some douchebag thief threw a 50 lbs weight into one of my car's windows (parked in Douchebag Central, aka Murray Hill), taking an old CD player walkman from my glove compartment. The CD player was useless but the window cost me $100 to replace. I'd like to recoup the loss. Thankfully, said douchebag thief left the 50 lbs weight in the back seat of my car as a souvenir (You needed to lug around a 50 lbs. weight to do the job of 3 lbs. crowbar? No wonder you broke into my car and not one with something valuable in it. You're an idiot). Now you can benefit from my loss by buying this weight at a discount."
Gossip Girl Goes Retail
Gossip Girl is officially back, with their new season premiering last night. There were British lords, Hamptons parties, people who aren't rich getting looked down upon by people who are rich (as well as other cookie cutter plot devices), and a number of puns involving Chuck Bass's name. Now, to insure an absolute takeover, the show has stepped off the small screen and invaded the windows of Henri Bendel. Racked reports on the 5th Avenue display, noting, "By our count, it looks like the display features two Blairs, one Serena, one Little Jenny Humphrey, and one dark-haired other girl." Give them one more season and they'll be slumming it with their own H&M designs. Bendel's has been one of the many NYC locations used in the show--it was where Dan spied Serena in the very first episode!
Know Your Sirens: FDNY Siren Mistaken for Police, Injuries Ensue
Some gamblers don't need their legs broken by loan sharks if they're paranoid enough. The FDNY discovered four men lying in an alley at 35-12 Farrington St. in Flushing, Queens while responding to a call about a smoke condition at the building. According to WNBC, the building houses a not-that-secret illegal gambling operation.
Video of the Day: Mouse Noshes at Macy's
It's not rats at a KFC/Taco Bell, but little critters are all around--sometimes in very public areas. Reader Stacey sent us footage of a window at Macy's in Herald Square, where a little mouse is really enjoying the Macy's Flower Show. WARNING: You may think this is cute.
Brothers Sensed Danger in Faulty High-Rise Rig
The two brothers who fell more than 40 stories from an Upper East Side apartment tower--only one surviving--had an inkling, if not outright concern, that the window washing scaffolding and platform they were using was not safe. A brother-in-law of Alcides and Edgar Moreno said that he talked with one of the brothers the morning of the incident, expressing their concern over the safety of the equipment, which apparently had a history of malfunctioning. The family...
