Photograph of Yankee players celebrating their 6-3 win over the Cleveland Indians--from left, Wilson Betemit (14), Melky Cabrera (28), Robinson Cano (24) Derek Jeter (2), Johnny Damon (18) and Bobby Abreu, right--by Frank Franklin II/AP Yankees 6, Indians 3: Consider for a moment what situation the Yankees would have been in if they had lost this game. They would have been 3-6 (with the six losses coming in two sweeps) on a nine-game homestand......

Mets 5 Dodgers 2: Omar has to be smiling about the Oliver Perez trade. Yes, Xavier Nady is a nice outfielder, but Perez is developing into something special. He showed this ability before, in 2004, but after that he was bad enough to get traded away by Pittsburgh. Now, he is averaging almost a strikeout an inning and is second on the Mets with 12 wins. Friday night, Perez pitched seven shutout innings and out-pitched......

Mets 8, Nationals 2: After fooling around with some of the National League's weaker teams, the Mets finished a sweep in Washington with this drubbing. Carlos Beltran led the way with two homers. His trip to the disabled list seems to have helped him out of his slump. Orlando Hernandez, who said his team had "good offense" and "good defense," won his fourth straight decision. He hasn't lost since July 4. Yankees 9, Tigers 3:......

Yankees 7 Orioles 6: This game is an example of how good things are going for the Yankees right now. Ace gets slapped around for three runs in the first, no problem. All-time great closer blows it in the ninth, no problem either. New York stormed back from a 3-0 deficit and overcame a blown save by Mariano as well. As has been usual recently, home runs played a part in the show. Bobby Abreu......

Mets 12, Brewers 4: Tuesday's 13-inning loss didn't seem to portend good things for the Mets' road trip. A worn-out rotation and bullpen looked ripe for a beating during the final two games in Milwaukee. But Oliver Perez stepped up Wednesday, and Brian Lawrence, pitching in the big leagues for the first time since 2005, reaped the benefits of run support in Thursday's matinée finale. That included Damion Easley's unlikely inside-the-park home run. Next up:......

The Yankees and Mets head into today’s trade deadline with similar objectives, upgrading their bullpens, but the Mets have already strengthened their team. Yesterday, the Mets acquired Luis Castillo from the Minnesota Twins for AA catcher Drew Butera and Class A outfielder Dustin Martin. Martin had a .779 OPS for St. Lucie while Butera, considered more of a defensive player, had struggled in AA hitting only .188. In Castillo, a three-time All Star and former......

Yankees 4, Diamondbacks 1: The Yankees are rolling, winning seven games in a row and now stand at .500 for the first time since May 9th. The fact that they're only .500 after their win streak shows how awful their record was before. Bobby Abreu extended his hitting streak in the 1st inning with a three-run homer off Brandon Webb, last year's Cy Young winner in the NL. That was all the team needed as......

If you were keeping score at last night's Mets-Braves game, at what point do you stop? 43 players were used in the almost 5-hour, 14 inning game. At the end, the Mets prevailed 8-7 on a game winning double by David Wright. All told, the Mets and Braves both used all of their 13 position players and the Braves used 9 pitchers. The length of the game was no match-up for the game on July......
