    • Yankees 8 Angels 2: How appropriate that on Old-Timers’ Day it was the Yankees oldest player who continued his season-long renaissance. Mike Mussina had a rocky second inning, but he settled down and pitched seven innings of two-hit ball for his 14th win of the year. Mussina would have pitched a shutout if Wilson Betemit could field, but the Yankees have no complaints after finally beating the Angels. Betemit redeemed himself with a homer to tie the game at 2 and three other Yankees went deep. more ›

Last Night's Action: One Up/One Down

  • Baltimore 7 Yankees 6: The Yankees set the stage for a remarkable comeback, but they couldn’t seal the deal. Trailing 6-1 in the eighth, New York cut the lead to 6-3 and had two runners on with no outs, but they couldn’t get closer. Mariano Rivera gave up a run in the ninth, but New York cut the lead to 7-6 and they had a runner on with one outs. But, Robinson Cano and Wilson Betemit struck out to end the game and the Yankees now have lost three-straight.

Last Night's Action: The Mets Take The City

Last Night's Action: The Mets Take The City

Another Met who will be sorry to see the Subway Series end is Carlos Delgado. Delgado hit his third home run of the series, a shot that put the Mets up 2-0. The Mets added a run in the sixth thanks to a wild pitch, but the Yankees cut it to 3-1 when Wilson Betemit hit a bomb to left. The Yankees threatened in the ninth when Jeter got on base and A-Rod hit a deep fly to left, but it stayed in the park and Billy Wagner took care of business after that, setting down the Yankees for his 18th save.

Last Night's Action: Better Late than Never

  • Jozy Altidore is out the door. The talented Red Bulls striker -- so young he missed a game last year for his high school prom -- will be playing games for the Spanish club Villareal. At 18, he will get valuable experience for the United States' national team. Major League Soccer, meanwhile, gets some extra coin in the ole coffer. Thanks to Juan Pablo Angel's goal in the 75th minute, the Red Bulls didn't need Altidore in a 1-0 win over Chivas USA .

    Last Night's Action: Avoiding Disaster

    Last Night's Action: Avoiding Disaster

    • Yankees 6, Indians 3: Consider for a moment what situation the Yankees would have been in if they had lost this game. They would have been 3-6 (with the six losses coming in two sweeps) on a nine-game homestand and would have started a road trip in Detroit on a four-game losing streak. The Tigers swept the Yankees in the Bronx last week. To top that off, they would be sending the never-entertaining Kei Igawa to the mound. more ›

  • Giants 13, Ravens 12: Pre-season NFL play is often about making it through with minimal injuries. In yesterday's game, the Giants had four injuries: Steve Smith (concussion), Mike Jennings (Achillies), Will Demps (elbow), Sam Madison (hamstring). Jennings, a wide receiver, is out for the season with a ruptured left Achilles. Eli Manning was 10-13 for 114 yards and a TD, but he also lost two fumbles in one half of play.

Last Night's Action: One Goes Up, One Goes Down

  • Liberty 79, Mystic 69: There can be basketball in New York June! Unfortunately for Knicks fans, it's the WNBA and not the NBA Finals. But at least the Liberty are winning, unlike their male counterparts typically do. The Liberty opened the season playing 6 of their 8 games at home (they happen to be 6-2), but now take the show on the road, playing 7 of 9 on the road starting Friday.

Oh oh oh oh oh, The Wright Stuff

Oh oh oh oh oh, The Wright Stuff

If you were keeping score at last night's Mets-Braves game, at what point do you stop? 43 players were used in the almost 5-hour, 14 inning game. At the end, the Mets prevailed 8-7 on a game winning double by David Wright. All told, the Mets and Braves both used all of their 13 position players and the Braves used 9 pitchers. The length of the game was no match-up for the game on July 4, 1985, which had two rain delays and an official time of 6:10, ending at 3:55 AM after 19 innings. more ›
