He materializes upstage wearing dark skirts, some sort of plastic tube stuffed in his mouth, his hair tied in a spiky pony-tail, a plastic duck in a birdcage hugged to his chest. The classic Chordettes oldie Mr. Sandman is playing, and in a flash we're once again transported to Foremanland, a singular dimension of feverish theatrical provocation, devoid of conventional narrative but rich with humor and deliciously inspired tableaux.

Cate Blanchett and Willem Dafoe are joining the cast of Wes Anderson's next movie, The Life Aquatic. Bill Murray stars as an oceanographer, who will be the center of the film, as he and his crew go on "a series of wild deep-sea adventures, including the search for a shark" (Hollywood Reporter). The rest of the cast includes Anjelica Huston, Owen Wilson, Jeff Goldblum, Peter Stormare, and Gothamist's favorite Anderson regular, Kumar Pallana ("Man, I blew it. I blew it, man.").
This week we have been working out of the Gothamist downtown office, and grabbing lunch at the M&O deli on Prince and Thompson Street. Looking across the street, we noticed a commotion in front of Vesuvio Bakery. When we walked over we were sad to discover all the flowers were there because the owner had died the day before. Apparently they are going to reopen the bakery in his honor pretty soon (it's been closed for renovations).
This Sunday's Tinkle looks to be exceptionally good: Marc Maron, Fred Armisen, Jessi Klein, with music by David Garza. Todd Barry and Jon Benjamin host.
