The Times checks in on the New York City Opera and the New York City Ballet, who have been battling over their shared theater at Lincoln Center. The organizations had tried to come to terms on renovation plans several years ago in the early stages of Lincoln Center’s redevelopment effort. But discussions fell apart over issues like whether to create a center aisle (the opera was strongly in favor; the ballet, adamantly opposed) and how to...

Proving that murder cases never go cold, the police arrested a man suspected of killing a Queens man in 2001. Edgar Garzon (pictured), a gay set designer, had been attacked and beaten after leaving a Jackson Heights bar, and his death worried the gay community. However, his death was overshadowed by the September 11 attacks. Somehow, in the years since, the police found a suspect who had moved to London after the killing. The NY Times explains how the police worked with British authorities to arrest John L. McGhee:

When Mr. McGhee applied for citizenship there — and lied on his application by not revealing his criminal history — there was an opportunity to bring him home, the officials said. Authorities in London told Mr. McGhee to leave England or face prosecution there, the officials said.
McGhee, who had a prior rape conviction as well as other arrests, was arrested once he got off the plane at JFK. The Queens DA says they are investigatnig whether McGhee will also be charged with a hate crime (here's the press release of the charges).

If you've been following the trial of Nicholas Minucci, who beat Glenn Moore to the point of Moore's skull fracturing, you'll find a NY Times "Reporter's Notebook: Cracked Knuckles, as Loud as Words" article interesting. The local color of the courtroom is described, from Minucci's demeanor to his relatives' support, plus Reverend Al Sharpton's offer to testify. But most interesting to us was elaboration on a point brought up last week - a photograph shown by the defense:

Hinting that Mr. Moore was grandstanding for his civil lawsuit, [Minucci's defense attorney Albert] Gaudelli asked him about leaving the hospital on the back of a motorcycle. When Mr. Moore denied this, Mr. Gaudelli pulled out a New York Post article from last summer with a photograph of a man wearing a helmet on a motorcycle. The caption calls it Mr. Moore returning home. Mr. Gaudelli smelled blood as Mr. Moore looked at the article.

In one such case, when Mr. Eisner was head of Paramount Pictures in the early 1980's, he got into an argument with his friend, the producer Larry Gordon, over whether Mr. Gordon could take the project "Streets of Fire" to Universal Pictures, which had agreed to finance it. When Mr. Eisner learned the project went to Universal, he refused to speak to Mr. Gordon, going so far as to jump off a dock with his shoes on when he saw Mr. Gordon approaching the lake at a summer camp their two sons were attending.Anyway, this movie is just dying to be made, at least on the USA Network, though HBO would do a classier job with it. Treat Williams could play Mike Ovitz again...as for men to play Eisner and Bob Iger, all middle-aged white men sorta look the same to us, so maybe it's time to go to Fametracker's Hey, It's That Guy!.
