The Brooklyn-based Wheelhouse Pickles company has been selling a hot sauce named after the seminal D.C. hardcore band Minor Threat – and the band’s co-founder Ian MacKaye has given it his conditional blessings. The famously anti-commercial MacKaye, who not too long ago blasted Nike for ripping off a Minor Threat album design, was sent a sample of the sauce with a label similar to the Minor Threat illustration “Bottled Violence.” And after tasting the sauce,......

First, Jon Orren at Wheelhouse has created the Ploughman's Pickle, his take on the Branston Pickle Relish that graces the traditional English Ploughman's lunch. His version contains the wort from Sixpoint Craft Ales' Brownstone Ale (wort is the......

The trick to making your food last longer is proper storage. Yes, if......

It started with the pears. We were first introduced to Wheelhouse Pickles at a food blogger gathering a few weeks back, and one of the first things we tried were the award-winning Irma's Pears -- they took the prize for "Best Fruit" at the 2005 Rosendale International Pickle Festival. We were smitten from the start by the complex balance of flavors -- part Asian influence, part spice, with a tangy citrus bite. We had......

We tasted the Big Bang Okra, Top Shelf Beets, Horseradish Spiked Wax Beans, and one pickle variety that......
