Bloomberg Touts Support for Congestion Pricing

Yesterday, Mayor Bloomberg got some more political support for his congestion pricing plan. Joseph Crowley, a representative for parts of Queens and the Bronx and head of the Queens Democratic party, appeared with Bloomberg at Grand Central Terminal's subway station together. They announced that major mass transit improvements could be made in the Bronx and Queens with funding from congestion pricing. Two Metro-North stations would be opened in the Bronx (Parkchester and Co-op City) while two shuttered LIRR stations in Queens (Elmhurst and Corona) would re-open. more ›

Here's something you don't see, um, ever: a weekend with no subway service disruptions. Why? Blizzard, baby! Twelve inches of snow is going to make working on the tracks pretty impossible (this despite the special snowblower train car that can be put into service-- it's powered by a jet engine!) Anyway, if you want to go into Williamsburg without the usual triple-transfer weekend detour, now is the time to do it. Until about 7pm, at least-- that's when the snow is supposed to start falling. Hot NY1 Blooper Action!

As usual, Saturday morning found us watching Kristen Shaughnessy doing the weekend news over at NY1. At one point, we looked up from the laptop and were surprised to find her reading the news from one of the interview chairs. For about thirty seconds, she read straight from the sheets in her hand, stopping occasionally and starting over. All the while, we were staring at her rolled up pants and leather boots, and wondering why the sound equipment was draped over the other chair. Weird! Apparently the camera wasn't supposed to be on, because after a little while they started rolling some clips. Hmm-- maybe you have to be a pretty hardcore NY1 fan to appreciate this story. more ›
