Two long-feuding neighbors got into an argument inside a barber shop in Bensonhurst yesterday, leaving one neighbor dead of a gunshot wound to the head. Carmelo Calabro, 77, lived next door to Michael Mininni, 25, and his family on Bay 13th Street, and reportedly hated the Minninis so much that he erected a six-foot stone wall between their houses. Over 30 years living next door to each other the families have filed 14 harassment suits against each other, and yesterday the fighting boiled over into violence.

Scrap Of Shepard Fairey Wall For Sale On eBay
A teeny tiny piece of the Shepard Fairey wall that went up on Houston Street last year (and refuses to die even though it's been taken down) is now for sale on eBay, with a starting bid of $100. Surely, the most important art auction of our time. Don't have 100 bucks to drop on such a controversial piece of art history? No problem, you can peel off your own little scrap of work by the street artist—it is around just about every friggin' corner in the city.
Graffiti Case Dropped For Watercolor Artist
Brooklyn artist Julie Torres was busted back in July for painting a watercolor on her own piece of paper. Since that piece of paper was taped to a construction wall in Williamsburg, The Man arrested her for graffiti. Well, today Torres declared (in ALL CAPS) on Twitter:
Con Ed Talks About Brooklyn's "Baseball Wall"
Regarding the old "baseball wall" in Gowanus that we received a photograph of yesterday, showing it in rough shape... there's no need to worry! A spokesman from Con Ed (the company that now owns the wall now) tells us:
Is Brooklyn's Baseball Wall Coming Down?
Earlier this year an investigation of sorts was underway, as the Landmark Preservation Commission tried to determine whether a wall in Gowanus was worthy of landmark designation. Some believe the 20-foot wall—which stands at 3rd Avenue between 1st and 3rd Streets—is part of the original Dodgers stadium (aka Washington Park stadium). As of last December Con Ed was slated to demo some buildings by the wall, but said they would preserve the wall itself. But today April from Brooklyn sent us the above photo and noted, "the last remaining section of the oldest baseball stadium in Brooklyn (now part of a Con Ed facility in Gowanus) seems to be coming down."
Flashback: The Gowanus Wall, Then and Now
The wall in Gowanus that some believe is part of the original Dodgers stadium (aka Washington Park stadium) is now being investigated by the city to determine whether or not it should be landmarked. According to the NY Post, the Landmark Preservation Commission said it will review the 20-foot wall, which stands at 3rd Avenue between 1st and 3rd Streets.
Gowanus Wall Not Really Part Of Original Dodger Stadium
Until recently it was believed that a wall in Gowanus was part of the old Washington Park stadium, where the Dodgers played until moving to Ebbets Field in 1912. In fact, it was believed to be "the oldest section of any former major league ballpark still standing in the country." However, the 20-foot wall, located on 3rd Avenue between First and Third Streets, isn't quite what baseball historians thought it was.
Lawsuit Over Loose Moose Abuse at White Slab Palace!
Lower East Side restaurant and bar White Slab Palace "had a duty to provide ... an environment free from falling objects," according to a lawsuit filed in state Supreme Court. But the restaurant allegedly failed in the modest task that was its charge, and now 32-year-old Raina Kumra suffers from "chronic neck pain, anxiety, fatigue, dizziness and other serious and severe personal injuries," including "embarrassment." All this pain and humiliation could have been avoided had White Slab Palace just made sure that their giant 150-pound moose head was securely fastened to the wall.
When Central Park's Walls Come Tumblin' Down
Recently Metro examined the neglected transverse walls of Central Park. The transverses, the sunken crosstown roads designed by Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted, "cut from schist, leaving rock outcroppings or stones set in rough-hewn walls" are crumbling before our eyes.
DKNY's Soho Wall in Jeopardy
Earlier this year, six-floor 600 Broadway, at the corner of Houston, was sold for $71 million. While the Pottery Barn was a reported casualty, there might be another: The huge DKNY painted sign on the side of the building.
