Breakfast for dinner is in the culinary zeitgeist, and luckily, the act of eating morningtime foods at nighttime has extended beyond the cereal bowl or all night diner. While in the past pancakes may have been on top, waffles are now sweeping the nation (unsubstantiated!)—this week MSNBC even offered up an entire selection from various cities. And while we may be drooling over one Chicago plate (fried soft-shell crab on top of a savory Old Bay-seasoned waffle!), New York City is repping as well. Welcome back, the boys at Do or Dine, who seem to have an endless amount of tricks up their aprons.
Do Or Dine's Twisted Take On Chicken & Waffles
How's Everyone's Waffle Day Going?
As we all know, today is National Waffle Day! The kind of holiday that only Homer J. Simpson would celebrate—well, him and the Wafels & Dinges set. Today the Belgian waffle truck celebrated by giving out free waffles to those who handed over a waffle-inspired drawing (they'll be at 52nd and Lexington until 4:30, then you're left with less appetizing options). They also hosted a pageant earlier, and the winners were crowned and gifted with a year in free Wafels! The king is 51-year-old retired poet Jonathan Leiter (hailing from Staten Island), and his queen is 23-year-old Jasmine Hashi of Brooklyn. Congrats to the new waffle royalty—but on Waffle Day, everyone's a winner... or something.
Tomorrow: Celebrate The Waffle!
You guys, tomorrow is National Waffle Day! Seems like just yesterday it was International Waffle Day. Anyway, this means Wafels & Dinges is the place to be. The truck will host a pageant and be crowning Miss Wafel & Mister Wafel, as a centerpiece to their all day waffle celebration. The winners will get a full year of free waffles—which sounds like a very dangerous thing to have access to.
