It was a year ago that Marty Markowitz held a mock funeral for the M train, and recently there was talk of the MTA having something up its sleeve involving the M and V lines. amNewYork now reports on the doomsday cut makeovers, noting that MTA officials are considering the V replacing the M line where it runs through north Brooklyn to Middle Village. 2nd Ave Sagas notes that the agency "may adjust the route of the V train to subsume the current M route out to Metropolitan Ave. This new route could alleviate some pressure on the L line and provide an indirect one-seat ride from parts of Brooklyn and Queens."
MTA Looks At V/M Line Mashup
Rail Condition Snarls A, C, E, F, And V Commutes
A tipster described his morning commute on the F as screwy (Manhattan-bound F rerouted to Hoyt-Schermerhorn, to pick up the A/C) —and NYC Transit workers chalked it up to a broken rail. The MTA's service alert page says, "Due to a rail condition at the 14th Street Station, 168th Street-bound C trains are running on the express track between the Canal Street Station and the 59th Street-Columbus Circle Station. Jamaica-bound E trains are running on the express track between the Canal Street Station and the 42nd Street Station. Please expect delays on the A, C, E, F and V trains at this time."
'Tis the Season for the Nostalgia Train
Starting today, the MTA will give you a chance to step back in time. A vintage subway train--the "Nostalgia Train"-- will be running every Sunday through December on the V. In the words of the MTA, "With a little bit of luck and good timing, you can catch a ride on this classic subway car at stations along the V line between Queens Plaza and 2 Ave."
