Gallo's Humor

Filmmaker Vincent Gallo isn't finding one man's obsessive prank very funny. Page Six reports that when he changed his New York number to a California one, the man who received his old digits began impersonating him. He says, "When the guy would get calls that were for me, instead of telling them they had the wrong number, he'd play along and pretend to be me." To be fair, who wouldn't do that? more ›

On the Set: Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Undead

On Friday Gothamist visited the set of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Undead, a bizarre little indie shooting in the East Village. The movie is a sequel of sorts to Tom Stoppard’s hilarious existential comedy Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, but with “sexy vampires, the Holy Grail and Hamlet.” Jake Hoffman (son of Dustin), who appeared on some Arrested Development episodes, is a broke, frustrated ladies man who jumps at the chance to direct an off-Broadway play written by a pale, mysterious Romanian, played by John Ventimiglia, best known as Artie Bucco in the Sopranos. Vincent Gallo Wants to be Your Daddy!

Vincent Gallo Wants to be Your Daddy!

You may know Vincent Gallo best from his amazing movie Buffalo66, or his excretable movie Brown Bunny, or from his 1980s career as a musician and famous painter, or from leaning against that wall opposite Cafe Havana on Elizabeth Street, staring moodily into space. Now, courtesy of his website, you can take some of that magic and put it where you've always wanted it: in your womb! Funny parts in bold: more ›

Cabaret License: This Week's Music Megalist

If you missed out on tickets to the Futureheads tonight there are still a lot of other great shows this week. Tonight we suggest the Epochs. We were handed their cd upon leaving the Arcade Fire show at Irving earlier this month. Upon listening we discovered some uncomparable eclectic electro-acoustic-pop (say that 3 times fast). They play at the Knitting Factory tap bar tonight at 10:30 (for free). Before they go on check out Mommy and Daddy at 8pm downstairs in the Knit's Old Office. more ›

R. Kelly Heats Up Windy City

Jay-Z's 99 Problems video is a gorgeous, black-and-white dark ode to Brooklyn. See it here (we agree with stereogum about the Vincent Gallo part). And Gothamist admits to not knowing if it was in fact the Chicago River that runs through Chicago - we suspected it might be a canal of sorts. But thank heavens for the Internet. more ›

Dennis Farina To Law & Order?

Dennis Farina To Law & Order?

Crime Story is available on DVD; the guest stars on Crime Story include Julia Roberts, Gary Sinise, Vincent Gallo, Deborah Harry, Jann Wenner, David Hyde Pierce, and Dennis Haysbert. Farina also played Special Agent Jack Crawford in Manhhunter, the un-official (and much better than the Brett Ratner version) adapatation of Silence of the Lambs prequel, Red Dragon. Michael Mann produced Crime Story and directed Manhunter; it goes without saying that Farina appeared on Miami Vice. more ›

The Decline of Friendster

The Decline of Friendster

Jesus, even the Post is writing about how Friendster is passe, including the Casey Spooner quote about how it is "dead" for him: "I found myself wasting hours of much-needed creative time obsessively rolling through profile after profile. I felt a great weight lifted off my back." The article also mentions Friendster alternatives, Fiendster, Friendsterpimp, Introvertster, and Fallen Friendster. Where's FriendsterSlut? When someone forms that site, let us know. And sctually Gothamist is more suspicious that this is the Post's attempt to reach their six-mentions-a-week quota for Vincent Gallo, who Gothamist has had beef with every since he talked smack about Christina Ricci being fat, which propelled her into her current candy-apple head body. more ›
