Yesterday, Senator John McCain was welcomed and endorsed by President Bush. Bush referenced McCain's doubters and past history, "John showed incredible courage and strength of character and perseverance in order to get to this moment. And that's exactly what we need in a President: somebody that can handle the tough decisions; somebody who won't flinch in the face of danger."

Tabloid reaction to Mayor Bloomberg’s announcement that he will not run for president is the usual study in contrasts. The Daily News’s Josh Greenman and editorial board haven’t missed a beat and are already clamoring for Vice President Bloomberg. Grossman says Bloomberg would be the perfect complement to an Obama candidacy by inspiring confidence with his unstoppable financial skills.
Dan Rather may have retired from the CBS Evening News, but he's still breaking stories while at HDNet. On his upcoming Thursday night Dan Rather Reports, he will air an "rare sit-down interview" with Mayor Michael Bloomberg, where Bloomberg makes it "categorically clear that he will not run for President of the United States, nor will he seek a Vice Presidential bid nor any cabinet position for that matter, something he's never done before." Wow, we think we just heard candidates from both the Democratic and Republican parties sigh with relief!
Yesterday, Senator - and official Presidential candidate - Hillary Clinton made her first public appearances. She went to Hell's Kitchen to discuss a health insurance program for children - and announced she would make health care a critical of her campaign:
"I want to have a conversation with our citizens about we want for our country, and one of the goals that I will be presenting is health insurance for every child and universal health care for every American. That will be a very major part of my campaign, and I want to hear people's ideas about how we can achieve that goal."There is nothing like a photo op with lots of cute kids. And note how it says "Chelsea" and "Clinton" on the podium - that's some unintentional subliminal messing from the Ryan Center. And tonight on her website, Clinton will have her first "conversation."
What says romance more than a tiny little hamburger? White Castle is offering special Valentine's Day reservations at their locations. The Daily News says there will be a hostess to greet diners, and that there are even "cloth-covered, candlelit table as romantic music is piped in." This is the first time the Valentine's Day special is being offered in NYC, so if you want to make February 14 really memorable and you weren't quick enough to call the fancy places on January 14 (when many restaurants were taking reservations), maybe this is something to think about. Call 718-899-8404, ext. 304, by February 10. While you may laugh, we remind you that former Senator and former Vice Presidential candidate John Edwards and his wife Elizabeth celebrate their anniversaries at Wendy's.
So we've seen the first Presidential debate, and now last night the Vice Presidential debate...still want more? This Friday the second Presidential debate goes down and why not enjoy the banter with friends and cocktails. You can even play that drinking game a reader sugggested (found in the above link). Be warned however: Gothamist thinks that if you take a swig every time Bush pauses, doesn't know what a word means, or stumbles over his very own "original thoughts" or catch phrases...you may not know which party you support by the end of the night. But hey, it's on Friday, you'll have all weekend to nurse the political hangover.
