With considerably less fanfare than when the Obamas met the Bushes earlier this week, Vice President-elect Joe Biden and Jill Biden met Vice President Dick Cheney and Lynne Cheney at the vice presidential residence, the Naval Observatory. The AFP reports that during the 50-minute visit, "the couples held a private meeting and the Cheneys gave their guests a tour of the" Naval Observatory residence.

• Design firm EDAW was chosen to plan the Steeplechase Plaza for a now-vacant lot near the Coney Island boardwalk. The development beneath the Parachute Jump may include a water park and a platform for viewing Cyclones minor league baseball games.
• A large brokerage firm in Williamsburg, Brooklyn is saying the Corcoran Group's report claiming an 8% increase in average condo prices in the neighborhood during 2007 is incorrect. Aptsandlofts.com says that it's seen a 10-12% retreat in condo prices since the market's peak in early 2006.

Vice President Dick Cheney had a day of hunting at the Clove Valley Rod & Gun Club in upstate New York - and no one was hurt. However, there is a storm brewing over the fact that a Confederate flag was hanging in a garage on the property.

Thanks to the Democrats' victories and their new control of the House of Representatives, Congressman Charles Rangel of Harlem will be the next chairman of the Ways & Means Committee in January. And he's already eying the real estate:

"Mr. Cheney enjoys an office on the second floor of the House of Representatives that [has] historically been designated for the Ways & Means Committee chairman. I talked with Nancy Pelosi this morning and I¹m trying to find some way, kind and gentle, to restore the dignity of that office to the chair."

Last week, Rangel ruffled some feathers when he called Vice President Cheney a son of a bitch. The Post devotes an editorial to that, saying "For shame," but Rangel said, "I take back saying that publicly. I should have reserved that for him when we were together privately. Believe me, he would have understood." Yeah, it's not like Rangel shot someone in the face or anything. Cheney did say that if Rangel became head of Ways & Means, the economy could tank.

President Bush is an awesome friend. If you're Karl Rove. See, he nominated John Roberts (not the CBS guy...just a judge who looks suspciously like Pat Sajak) to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court, and Gothamist can't help but think the nomination came to stifle the news that Karl Rove - and an aide to Vice President Cheney - could very well have been the smoking gun in naming an undercover CIA operative. He managed to get on the cover of Time and Newsweek, only to make us realize he looks a lot like Brian Posehn. Will having a conservative Supreme Court nominee be enough to knock the leak story off A1 for long? Well, at least there's the Daily Show.
