Seven members of a Bronx church were killed on Interstate 87 near Woodbury yesterday when their van blew a tire and flipped over on the road. The Joy Fellowship Christian Assemblies church members were heading to a banquet in Schenectady when the rear tire exploded, causing driver Bernard Lattibuediere to lose control. Ysemny Ramos' husband finally told his three children that their mother (and stepmother) died. Ramos, who was three months pregnant, was killed on Friday when a Gristede's delivery van jumped a curb in Midtown and slammed into her. The Daily News reports that, according to the criminal complaint, the driver Keston Brown "told investigators he had had four beers and a shot of cognac before he got behind the wheel of the van" on Friday afternoon. more ›

Schools Chancellor Calls Stuy Van Crash "A Real Tragedy"

One of the Stuyvesant High School students seriously injured in last Saturday's Vermont van crash has returned home to New York. Junior Lucia Hsiao, a member of the girls' junior varsity track team, had suffered serious neck injuries but was able to "gingerly walk" to her room on her own. The Staten Island resident is wearing a halo around her head and will require a lot of rehab, but her dad said, "It could have been worse. She's done with the first step of recovery." more ›
