Earlier this morning we received reports that a pedestrian—possibly a school crossing guard—was likely to die after being hit by a truck on the Upper East Side. Now City Room reports that the victim has died, and it turns out it wasn't a crossing guard, but rather a 75-year-old man who was hobbling around on crutches and wearing a reflective vest. The attack occurred Thursday around 3:15 p.m. on the Upper East Side after the two suspects followed the victim into the building. One put the elderly man into a chokehold when they reached the second floor, while the other grabbed his wallet. A 12-year NYPD veteran was summoned by the Internal Affairs Bureau today to determine whether or not he had a role in protecting "Manhattan Madam," mother of four and animal lover Anna Gristina's Upper East Side brothel from detection. The mother of four who allegedly made millions of dollars running a high-end brothel out of an Upper East Side apartment building apparently loves pigs—so much so that her Facebook profile picture is one. DNAinfo reports that Anna Gristina kept wild and rescue pigs, from pot-bellies to wild boars, on her two-story farmhouse in Monroe. When Gristina was arrested last month she was helping to coordinate a rescue of 59 pigs from Florida. "She's a real lover of animals," Lana Hollenback of the Forgotten Angels Rescue & Education Center, a group from Tennessee that worked with Gristina online. A 44-year-old mother of four who allegedly made millions running a high-end brothel out of an Upper East Side apartment has been arrested and indicted. DNAinfo reports that Anna Gristina, who is a British National and owns property in Canada, was arrested in the middle of a meeting with a Morgan Stanley banker after a five-year investigation, because the public corruption unit believed she was a flight risk. Gristina allegedly bragged during the Eliot Spitzer investigation that she had sources in law enforcement who would alert her and protect her from government scrutiny. more ›
