WTC Tribute Thief Gets Six Months

Emmanuel Reyes, 26, the ex-assistant manager who stole $12k in donations and souvenir sales from the Tribute WTC Visitor Center on Liberty Street, has been sentenced to six months in jail. Reyes was busted stealing from the register and doctoring receipts after an audit showed money missing and a camera caught him in the act. WTC Visitor Center Worker Arrested For $40K Theft

A cashier at the Tribute WTC Visitor Center is accused of stealing $40,000 from donations and souvenir sales. The Post reports that the center's officials became suspicious of Emmanuel Reyes, 25, "after an audit showed that the register receipts were coming up short despite his effort to conceal the thefts." So they installed surveillance cameras and allegedly caught him in the act. The money from donations and souvenir sales goes towards keeping the center, located at 120 Liberty Street, its educational and community programs, and other work running. more ›

Yesterday, before heading to Pennsylvania for more campaigning, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin made an "unscheduled" visit to Ground Zero. She visited the Tribute WTC Visitor Center as well as Ladder Co. 10's firehouse, which has a bronze mural honoring the 343 firefighters who died on September 11. more ›
