Bushwick Architects Build A Treehouse And Cabin... Inside Apartment
The architects at Katz Chiao—Terri Chiao and Deborah Grossberg Katzhave—bulit a treehouse and a cabin inside of an apartment in Bushwick! They told FastCoDesign that it cost just $2,000, and, “as a result, living in the space can feel like living outdoors, in a tiny community of two houses." The project transformed the one room loft into a 3 room compound... with room for a cat, no less.
Lower 5th Avenue Treehouse Gets Landmarked
That treehouse on lower 5th Avenue gets to stay put. Melinda Hackett erected the tiny house in her Greenwich Village backyard, but one of her neighbors ratted her out to the cops and wanted the neat little structure demolished. After around 6 months of legal battles, Hackett has learned that she gets to keep her treehouse and its been granted landmark status! Check it out:

Recently the Wall Street Journal was invited over to the West Village pad, owned by painter Melinda Hackett, where we are reminded that with every fun thing in New York, comes curmudgeons who will complain about it.
Another Treehouse Grows in Manhattan
Following the Madison Square Park Conservancy putting up some tree huts, NBC has built "a giant treehouse at the corner of Broadway and 51st Street to tubthump the Oct. 17 debut of its drama series Crusoe," Variety reports. This one will is a replica of where Robinson Crusoe lives in the network's adaptation of the Daniel Defoe novel. Can't make it to the 30 Rock area? It's all online, with 24-hour webcam action. But this thing would be a lot cooler if it were actually, you know, in a tree. Either way, it'll be around til Friday, with a hired-actor playing the part of Crusoe.
