What's eBay good for if not finding a place to buy and sell things like...John Gotti's cufflinks?

A lot of people pick up abandoned furniture on the street, but apparently there's some good 'ol fashion dumpter diving going on around town, too. Treasures in the trash are hard to come by, and we'd be nervous about bed bugs, but for the fearless - there is free stuff for the taking. The best of which is found at Third Avenue and 12th Street as NYU students depart for the summer.
People are still airing their thoughts on The Sopranos finale - NYMag is personally feeling a bit betrayed by David Chase, and The Observer is left needing therapy, not closure. We're more interested in what's left of the show...in other words: The Sopranos are having a yard sale (thanks for the tip, Logo)! The sale is listed on Craiglist (it doesn't specify it's for The Sopranos, but it is), and states there will be "plenty of furniture, lamps, rugs, antiques, books, kitchen and bathroom accesories etc. - a warehouse full of everything you can think of."
This morning we woke up not at all surprised to see Jared Paul Stern still flagellating himself over at Gawker. But to be honest, we were getting kind of bored with the whole thing. The best part of JPS's first post was his last line and the first comment: "And, just in case you were wondering, yes I can tell who's really posting the Comments. I am, after all, the Editor." Followed by Nick Denton commenting "Um, actually, commenters are anonymous, if they want to be. I am, after all, the publisher." We read that, laughed and went to eat an Easter meal with our family. When we got back a few hours later those two lines were gone, and Gawker went a little cray-cray.
Quarlo's always been one of our favorite photobloggers, and so we've been really happy to see that recently he's been posting again. Instead of the usual sets though, he's just been putting up single photos at a time, like this one which we just can't quite take our eyes off of.
Supporting the local economy and local artists but doing it with a "think globally" attitude, this weekend (which already seems so far away) the Habana Outpost opened it's biodegradable doors to the public for the season. It's the first solar powered flea market/restaurant/artist community.
Gothamist loves a good sale, so when we heard about the Theater Development Fund costume sale, our eyes got all big and buggy. TDF is the non-profit organization behind the TKTS booth, and they do many other great endeavors which promote theater and the arts. From Tuesday Oct. 26 through Thursday Oct. 28, they will be clearing out twenty thousand professional quality theatrical costumes during the TDF Costume Collection's “Moving Sale”. These are described as "one-of-a-kind costumes from all periods, as well as many accessories that were donated over the years from Broadway and Off Broadway productions, opera companies and individuals." The sale will be held on the 17th floor of 601 West 26th Street, the site of TDF’s Costume Collection, which rents costumes to not for profit organizations across the country at reduced prices.
