Portland, Oregon resident M. Ward (or "Matt", as his friends call him) is an enigmatic good 'ol fashioned singer/songwriter. Appearing detached and independent from the world he connects to through music, he seems to come to us from another time and place. Without pretense he delivers songs with a voice that hangs in the air, enchanting an audience of listeners who are always left wanting more. An old soul with a guitar and the ability to tell a story through song, his live show is not one to be missed. Tomorrow night he plays Town Hall for the first time.

We're a little late on the music picks this week, but we have an excuse. We've been too busy being obsessed about Cloud Cult. They played our Movable Hype show on Monday night and last night they played Cross Pollination at Pianos. Both amazing sets. We now have a bold comment to make to begin this rather bold post: We like Cloud Cult more than we like Arcade Fire.
Andrew Bird and M. Ward not only released two of our favorite albums this year, they both put on a perfect live show. Keren Ann is another one of our favorite people to see live. Over the past past few months we've paid to see Keren Ann, M. Ward, and Andrew Bird headline shows in NYC. For that reason we couldn't be more excited that Andrew & Keren are teaming up for a double headlining bill at Bowery Ballroom on Wednesday, and Mr. Ward is playing a free show at Castle Clinton in Battery Park on Thursday. Keren's album is called Nolita and you can listen to some of it here. M. Ward's album is called Transistor Radio and Merge has some songs you can stream. Andrew Bird's album is the Mysterious Production of Eggs and NPR has some songs and a review. M. Ward is also at Maxwell's on Friday.
