Over the course of this weekend a pedestrian was killed by a driver charged with DWI, a cyclist was killed by a hit-and-run driver, two teenagers are in critical condition after being struck by a hit-and-run driver, a woman was in serious condition after being hit by a curb-jumping livery cab, and a deaf boy was left brain-dead after being struck by a vehicle. "All of these tragedies were preventable," Transportation Alternatives communications coordinator Joseph Ferris told us. "The NYPD and district attorneys must do more to stop this scourge of crashes."

The Staten Island Advance pointed us in the direction of YouTube user "we5leyz," who has a camera mounted on his dashboard that captures him blowing his "train horn," cursing at jaywalkers as he speeds through intersections, and making illegal U-turns.
After Pedestrian Deaths On Delancey Street, Politicians Demand Action
In the wake of the death of 51-year-old Patricia Cuevas, who was struck and killed by a garbage truck crossing Delancey Street at Essex Street last Tuesday, state senator Daniel Squadron, city councilmember Margaret Chin and Transportation Alternatives said in a joint press release that they they would "ask the DOT to fix" the "unacceptable," unsafe conditions at the location in the Lower East Side, which Squadron calls "one of the most dangerous intersections in the city."
Corzine, Canine Promote Traffic Safety
The Star-Ledger reports that NJ Governor Jon Corzine will be sharing with the spotlight today with a 115-pound Doberman pinscher. The dog is Buck the Buckle-Up Dog, who helps remind children and adults alike to "Please Buckle-Up Evey Time You Ride."
