Queens Boulevard Track Work Means On E, F Headaches Until April 16

Our subways need a lot of maintenance, and that means riders need to deal with some inconveniences as the MTA gets to work between now and April 16 on a "major track renewal and component replacement project along the Queens Boulevard Line." This means Manhattan-bound E and F customers that board between Sutphin Boulevard (F) and 75th Avenue (E, F) stations will need to to back-ride Queens-bound trains and then change for Manhattan-bound trains at non-affected stations. According to the MTA, "This will add about ten minutes to a rush-hour trip." more ›

How The MTA Is Disassembling Your Weekend

Inter-borough mingling has been suspended this weekend for those of you along the L line—PLEASE BE PATIENT! There will be absolutely no L trains running between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenue and Manhattan, but the MTA claims to be offering some sort of "shuttle bus" debauchery instead. MTA May Shut Down Entire Subway Lines During Repairs

When you think about how your weekends are fouled up by subway service disruptions, causing you to take an different route or a shuttle bus, chew on this: Would it be better if the MTA just shut down the whole entire line, so work crews could finish the job faster? Now, it's killing me," said Hilna Motors owner Louis Gellman, whose auto repair shop is beneath the D train at 86th St. and Stillwell Ave. "I can't even talk to people outside. I have to bring my customers into my office." more ›

New data from NYC Transit reveals subway commuters are getting slower in recent years. The NY Post reels off the depressing numbers: "Through June, the number of delayed trains is up an average 24 percent from two years earlier, and 71 percent from three years earlier. And the distance trains travel without breaking down was down 7 percent in July from two years earlier, and 17 percent from three years earlier." And the areas of blame are lack of money for maintenance, higher ridership, additional track work to keep the 104-year-old system running. more ›
