Pols Want Tour Buses, Not Tourists, Out Of Ground Zero

Yesterday, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver held a multi-agency meeting to discuss the potential tour bus "problem" lower Manhattan will face when the 9/11 Memorial opens in September. However, don't think that this will turn downtown into some no-tourists-allowed haven. One proposal suggests having drop-off points in New Jersey and Brooklyn, so tourists can take the PATH or ferries to Ground Zero. As state Senator Daniel Squadron said, "The more you bring in visitors by means other than tour buses, the more time—and money—they spend downtown." more ›

Dakota Residents Fight Flocks Of Tourists

Dakota Residents Fight Flocks Of Tourists

The residents and neighbors of the famous Dakota building on the Upper West Side are sick of seeing tour buses filled with folks who want to see where John Lennon lived and died. A long time resident told the NY Post that, “They are an inconvenience and a nuisance. When the tourists get out, they block the entire sidewalk and you can’t get back into your building. It’s dangerous because many times, the buses block the intersection. They block the vision of the pedestrian walking across. I’ve seen people nearly killed.” According to West Side Independent, who broke the story, the buses aren't always city buses—councilwoman Gale Brewer told them, “Both I and my staff have visited the intersections on weekend mornings and have learned that the majority of the tour buses come from out-of-state and Canada." more ›

Bourgeois did admit that there was some partying on the way to the venue, and that he "probably brought it on." He also noted that the cops could likely smell the remnants of it later, but he couldn't because "I'm a smoker. I'm used to it." As for the firearm, he claims to have never seen Wayne with a gun. If convicted, he could go to jail for over 3 years. Get your "Free Weezy!" signs ready, folks. more ›
