Wednesday night on WNBC’s 11 p.m. newscast, Michael Gargiulo in a live report about a police shooting in the Bronx appeared to give viewers the finger. In actuality he was holding a photo, however the way he was holding it made it appear that he was giving the one finger salute. Such are the perils of live television.

Those cognitive dissonance-inducing multiple rider bicyles that you see tourists on in Midtown have a sworn enemy: A 50-something year old pianist who is woken up by raucous PartyBikers (the company that runs them is PartyBike) is waging a campaign to get them off Eighth Avenue. Sammy G. (last name withheld) tells the Post that PartyBikes have barreled into pedestrians because they are out of control and that other PartyBikes will race each other down the street. Hmm, Eighth Avenue doesn't sound like the best place to do that since many cars are zipping up to head uptown. While PartyBike says, "We just give rides...there's never been an accident, and it's a safe operation" and crows about being on The Amazing Race, Good Morning America and The Tony Danza Show, Sammy G. isn't convinced. Sammy G. has been "investigating" the operation for a couple months: "One time, I followed them to find out where they started from, and what their exact route was. Another time, I went undercover, posing as a guy named Joe who was 'interested in going for a ride.'" Sammy G. is two steps away from pure, vigilanteism!

Photoblogger Jesse Chan-Norris, apparently with a lot of free time, was in Union Square today to witness Indy Car driver Danica Patrick take on what was billed to be a "prominent New York celebrity." It turned out to be Tony Danza. Jesse informed us that it was "one of the weider things he's seen in Union Square" but that it's the "kind of thing that makes New York great." True on at least one count. The event was a promotion for Network Solutions and was taped for the Tony Danza Show. Unlike Danza's last race in a go-cart, there was no flipping and there were helmets involved. Looks like Uncle Tony has learned a safety lesson. Too bad, because the Unintentional Comedy Rating of another accident would have been pretty high.
