Finally, some good news for the Plaza Hotel. Princess's valuables may not be safe there, and the last Oak Room guests might have been too vulgar but at least the condo/hotel has a good thing going underground. Though people apparently weren't interested in buying pricy baubles in the Plaza's underground concourse it seems they love buying pricy food there. So not only is the Plaza Food Hall by Todd English getting an expansion (and new name) today—next year 17 more food options ranging from Sant Ambroeus desserts to Luke's Lobster rolls to No. 7 Subs will be turning the space into a giant upscale food court.

Waiter Stole $91K In Fake Tips From Todd English's Olives
There seems to be another story every week about waiters teaming up to reclaim their tips from penny-pinching bosses, so there is something refreshing about a waiter who turned the tables, instead allegedly pilfering $91,000 in fake tips from his employer, Todd English's Olives restaurant off Union Square. Investigators say that for the past two years 33-year-old waiter Mohammad Siraj would just add extra tip money onto his checks in the restaurant's computer.
Photos: Ca Va, Todd English's Flashy New French Brasserie
Todd English can't stop, won't stop. Having just slapped his celebrated name on the new fancy food court in the Plaza Hotel, the chef/restaurateur is opening Ca Va, a shiny new brasserie adjacent to the new Intercontinental Times Square hotel on West 44th Street. It's also right by the new Shake Shack, so if you tire of the line you can always pop in here for a $21 sirloin burger. (It opens Monday, which IS ALREADY AUGUST, WTF?!)
English-Wang Party Can't Be Stopped!
After Olives and Libertine owner Todd English bailed on his wedding at the last minute, friends and family of the jilted bride-not-to-be decided to party on, making the most of the celebrity chef's leftovers. The Post reports that 150 guests of Erica Wang decided to forge ahead with the fancy affair at the the St. Regis Hotel, enjoying a five-course dinner on English's dime. The scene sounded similar to the non-wedding bash had at the Mandarin over the summer when baller Richard Jefferson left his fiance at the altar.
Recipe of the Week: Cyril Renaud's Smoked Salmon Salad
Have you ever dreamed that you could have a multi-course lunch at the home of an amazing chef, hang out in his kitchen while he prepares it and pick up some cooking tips and recipes along the way? It’s possible. One way is to befriend (or maybe even date) a chef. Another is through By Invitation Only events, open to platinum American Express card members. Chef Cyril Renaud of Fleur de Sel opened up his Brooklyn kitchen to some Platinum AmEx cardholders, many of whom had used their reward points to attend the event. If you've been saving your reward points for a rainy day, now's a great time to use them.
Beard Bash: The 2007 James Beard Awards
Maybe it was just the red carpet, but most of the people we spoke to seemed particularly excited about the new digs for the James Beard Foundation Awards, black-tie affair held last night at Avery Fisher Hall to honor some of the country's best chefs, restaurateurs, and culinary professionals. Susan Ungaro, the President of JBF, noted that originally, James Beard had moved to New York to become an opera singer, but had to earn a living until he hit the big time. He started a catering company and the rest, as they say, is history, but she noted that he would have been pretty excited to be up on that stage.

Harvest in the Square
Hurricaine Isabel forced the Harvest in the Square Event to be rescheduled tonight. In its eighth year, Harvest in the Square brings Union Square area chefs to offer tastings of food prepared from Union Square Greenmarket Farmers Market, accompanied by Long Island and other New York Wines. Tickets are $90 in person (cash only), $75 in advance, and will benefit the Union Square Local Development Corporation, which is currently looking to enhance the North Plaza of Union Square Park.
Will Travel, Will Eat
The Times looks at some food options for travelers at and near airports, as airlines are cutting back on the meal service. Wolfgang Puck's express locations, as well as Pret a Manger and Todd English's Figs, were recommended. Having tried the chicken salad at Wolfgang Puck's at O'Hare, Gothamist can safely say that anything is better than the hockey puck bagel or bag of pretzels you get on the airplane and it's easier and less smelly than pizza to bring on the plain.
