Times Square will be closed to vehicles tomorrow starting at 4PM. Basically, the viewing sections start fillingn up starting at 43rd Street, moving up Broadway and Seventh Avenue all the way to Central Park. The NY Times gave Times Square the 100th Birthday treatment this weekend. Some articles Gothamist found interesting:

Here's some very limited information about Times Square's 100th Anniversary from the Times Square Bid; apparently there will be activities, but there are no details. The Times Square website is interesting, but no other birthday details. The Times on Times Square's Duffy Square and the NY Times-Times Square name connection (it has something to do with the subway...). Also, the NY Times Times Square building is a city landmark.

Other security measures being taken for New Year's in Times Square: Manholes welded; mailboxes, garbage cans, and vending machines removed; snipers on rooftops; hundreds of police officers on duty, many in plainclothes (Mayor Bloomberg said, "You're going to see a lot of cops there. There'll be a lot more cops that you don't see."). The Department of Homeland Security granted New York's request for extra air support, as if it was going to say no.
