In 2006 Brooklyn photographer Noah Kalina had a lot of eyes on him. After posting a video online containing a photograph of himself taken each day for six years, he went down in viral video history. That video, called "everyday," was scored to original music by his ex-girlfriend Carly Comando, and both have the world's attention again after The Simpsons parodied it a couple of weeks ago. If you are one of the few who haven't seen the original, you can do so here. This Friday marks the 8th year he'll be taking a photograph of himself every day! And today Jen Bekman is offering one of Kalina's prints for sale through her 20x200 website.

A good December night: four friends hosting twenty-five dinner guests in one capacious Williamsburg loft for a multi-course dinner with unlimited cocktails and wine pairings. This Friday -- if you act fast -- the Whisk and Ladle Supper Club invites Gothamist readers to a dinner party -- revamped, with a seasonal menu featuring Black Bear. The cost? $40 – 50 dollars a head, depending on the cost of ingredients. Friday’s Whisk & Ladle Menu:...
We've been excited about the first U.S. store from MUJI since March. This Friday at noon, the Japanese retailer (whose full name Mujirushi Ryōhin, translates to "No Brand Quality Goods") will open its SoHo location at 455 Broadway. We got to tour the store last week for a quick peek as workers were getting it ready. The store is 2,000 square feet, with products ranging from its popular stationery line to cooking utensils and...
Coming this season: Law & Order will definitely have an episode based on the murder of Adrienne Shelly. A reader just sent us a casting notice to find someone to play an immigrant construction worker accused in the crime:
[JULIO CONTRERAS] male, 19-24, Hispanic, illegal immigrant. Speaks English w/accent. He has been working as a day laborer/construction worker in this country for almost two years. He sends money back home to his family in So. America - he is the sole breadwinner for his mother and siblings. He is suspected of murdering Erin Garrett after they argued about his construction crew turning off the electricity in her building. He admits to the argument and pushing her. She fell, hit her head, and was knocked unconscious. Julio swears he did not hang her. He is brought to trial. In the Shelly murder, Shelly and construction worker Diego Pillco argued over noise. Pillco told police he staged Shelly's body to look like a hanging because he thought she was dead after hitting her (she was only unconscious); he is pleading not guilty.
Do you like show tunes? Do you like American Idol? Do you like watching the desperate hand of hope brush ever so close to success - only to be publicly smacked away? Then set “Celebrity Duets” to Tivo and come join the fun at “Broadway Idol”, the main event of the New York Musical Theatre Festival party series.
Old friends of Gothamist, (they played our Movable Hype 1.5 show way back when!), Morning Theft is still chugging through the New York scene playing their inspired brand of Pixies-meets-Nirvana rock. They've recently entered the Emergenza Festival...a national battle of the bands of sorts. This Friday at the Knitting Factory, they will be playing in the semis for a chance to advance to the finals at Webster Hall. They'll be on at 8:00 sharp. Come out and show your support!
This Friday at Crobar, the good people at Coney Island USA are having a fundraiser and mini-hot dog eating competition. The "City of Fire" Spring Gala will feature various entertainment, including Miss Coney Island, the World Famous Pontani Sisters, and a mini Mermaid Parade. For our money though, the eating competition is where the money is at. Dick Zigun, Coney Island USA's Artistic Director, will take on Crazy Legs Conti, the IFOCE's 12th ranked eater.

It's not a great week for the slim of pocketbook, as we've dug up some gems that will cost you. We hope they're worth it, though! There's funny, slightly arty, and just plain bookish. Take your pick.
If you are anything like us, the gorgeous spring weather, coupled with the increasingly long days, has infected you with a raging case of spring fever only rivaled by the fevered psychosis of an eighth grader on the last afternoon of school. Our lunch hours are getting a little bit longer each day and by 4:59 every Friday we've got our noses pressed against the glass doors of our office, twitching a little bit more with ever passing second. This Friday should prove even worse, since we're planning a weekend trip to Dia Beacon, the irresistible contemporary art museum just far enough out of the city to feel like a little day vacation.
If you aren't in Indio, California this weekend then you aren't seeing Nine Inch Nails, the Arcade Fire or Spoon. You also aren't going to be suffering from heat stroke in a desert and buying $8 bottles of water, so we think you made a wise decision to skip Coachella. This weekend in New York we say goodbye to April, which if the old saying is correct - no more rain! Right? So throw away your umbrella and head to the May Day Festival in Tompkins Square Park this Sunday. And in the meantime, check this stuff out:
Also, Chashama is worth checking out even if you can't make it to this particular play. They have a number of events and programs dedicated to the artist, including A.R.E.A. (Accessing Real Estate for the Arts) which sets up artist spaces through interim occupancy.
So we've seen the first Presidential debate, and now last night the Vice Presidential debate...still want more? This Friday the second Presidential debate goes down and why not enjoy the banter with friends and cocktails. You can even play that drinking game a reader sugggested (found in the above link). Be warned however: Gothamist thinks that if you take a swig every time Bush pauses, doesn't know what a word means, or stumbles over his very own "original thoughts" or catch phrases...you may not know which party you support by the end of the night. But hey, it's on Friday, you'll have all weekend to nurse the political hangover.
Brooklyn hipsters wore black the day that ber-mod coffeehouse-cum-record shop-cum-bar-cum-antique ephemera peddler Halcyon closed its doors on Smith Street. This Friday, however, Kings County hipsters can finally throw off their black garb and, well, don more black garb - this time in celebration of Halcyon's rebirth.
, and Gothamist heartily approves.
Things went about as well as possible for Pennington, who completed each of his first 10 passes to finish 10 of 11 for 169 yards and one touchdown in a the better part of a half of action. While former C.W. Post standout Ian Smart staked his claim to the squad with a 59-yard punt return for a score (a total of five returns for 114 yards), number two running back Lamont Jordan made headlines when he expressed his displeasure with being relegated to get his reps with the third offensive unit (while Jonathan Reese again spent time with the second team), but on Sunday, both he and coach Herman Edwards seemed to downplay whatever rift there may or may not be between the two.
Gothamist doesn't get up early for just anyone. This Friday however we'll be rising with the sun so we can run over to Bryant Park and catch Stevie Wonder play...we suggest you do the same.
Whether Mother Nature is teasing us or not, there are distinct signs beyond weather that tell us it should be Spring in NYC.
