The New York Red Bulls officially kicked off their pre-season this Monday at Red Bull Arena, with many team members checking in for physicals before spending their first day at the team's training grounds in Montclair, New Jersey on Thursday.

Goal: Red Bulls Make Draft Picks, NY Cosmos Have West Side Dreams
After a quiet first two months of the off-season, and with team management stating they were "not banking" on Thursday's MLS SuperDraft for major help, Red Bulls fans could be forgiven for thinking the team might not even show up in Kansas City. Yet the team still manage to make waves, acquiring goalkeeper Ryan Meara in the draft, Swedish defender Markus Holgersson on a transfer, and Portland Timbers forward Kenny Cooper in a trade.
Thierry Henry Loaned To Arsenal And Other Off-Season Red Bulls News
With just over two weeks until the MLS preseason camps open, the New York Red Bulls have been relatively quiet on the transfer market, with more players heading out the door than coming in.
Red Bull Arena Gets 2011 MLS All-Star Game
Soccer fans, get ready: This year's MLS All-Star Game will be held at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ, on July 27. Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber said, "The combination of one of the most spectacular stadiums of its size in the world with the passionate soccer supporters in the metropolitan New York area will provide a terrific showcase for our All-Star Game. Red Bull Arena will be a tremendous venue for this marquee event and we are pleased to bring the All-Star Game to an area with a rich soccer tradition."
Last Night's Action: A Change Of Plans
The Yankees were forced to put Dustin Moseley on the mound a day early when AJ Burnett came down with back spasms and it worked out pretty well for the Yankees. Moseley lasted 6-1/3, surrendering two runs. And the Mets' game started out well...but didn't end that way, in the 6-5 loss to the Phillies.
Last Night's Action: Yanks Keep Rolling
The Yankees got a win for CC Sabathia, with help from A-Rod who had four RBIs and his 599th home run. Thierry Henry made his Red Bulls debut with a goal in the loss to the Tottenham Spurs in a friendly match. And the Mets continued their slump, losing 2-0 to the Dodgers.
Making The Call: We're Not A Nation Of Soccer Fans
We didn’t get the “Miracle On Grass” that some pundits expected yesterday. Instead, the U.S. showed determination and they took advantage of a lucky break they received to earn a tie. The problem is that even with a win, Americans wouldn’t have been transformed into soccer fans overnight. Yes, a good performance by the national team would excite fans and generate passion for soccer, but it won’t have a lasting impact because once the World Cup is over all that remains for the U.S. soccer fan is MLS.
Star Athletes Convene for Downtown Soccer Match
Yesterday's charity mini-soccer game, "Showdown in Chinatown," organized by NBA superstar Steve Nash turned out to be the hot (free) ticket. People were crowded almost a dozen people deep, standing on cars, and clinging to fences and poles to catch glimpses of NBA players like Jason Kidd, Leandro Barbosa, and Baron Davis and soccer players Claudio Reyna, Salomon Kalou, Robbie Fowler, Steve McManaman, Rob Jones, Jozy Altidore and Gregg Berhalter playing in Sara Roosevelt Park on the Lower East Side. Davis, who is a point guard for the Golden State Warriors, had expressed a desire to win, but apparently caused a few penalties by touching the ball (he was entertaining, though).
Steve Nash & Friends Play Soccer in L.E.S. Today
The Phoenix Suns' Steve Nash is organizing a mini-soccer match for charity today at 5 p.m. Billed the "Showdown in Chinatown" (the game is at Sara D. Roosevelt Park, at Chrystie and Stanton Streets), other professional athletes expected to attend are soccer players Thierry Henry and Claudio Reyna and the NBA's Jason Kidd, Baron Davis and David Lee, Leandro Barbosa and Raja Belland. And could Nash's former coach and current Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni stop by?
