Though we suspect he may have gotten some Jello pudding packs along the way, he isn't fat, and yesterday, Harry, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier, stole the show in the first day of competition at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

When the dust cleared after the elections on Tuesday, the Democrats were the last party standing. Even in a blue-leaning state like New York, Democrats had to play hard in their quest to dominate the old boys' club known as the Republican party. As Dems claimed victory in every state race, Republicans retreated and joined the ranks of some other New York losers.

There may be some high-flying developers and investors interested in buying Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village, but the underdog bidders to capture the public's heart of the sale might just be the tenants of STPCV themselves. Really: The Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village Tenants Association reports that tenants are interested in forming an investor group to make a bid. A tenants-investor group would try to preserve stability for tenants - both market rate and rent-stabilized. Now, how a group of tenants will get billions ready for a bid is another question, but it'll be interesting to see how the tenants fight the sale of the complex. City Councilman Dan Garodnick, who lives in Stuy Town-Peter Cooper Village, is working with the tenants' association (he even tried to visit all 100 buildings in the complex during his election run last year!).

Do you like kudoz? Well today is your lucky day. We've got not one, but two sets of awards for the price of one. First, Food & Wine Magazine announced their 2006 Best New Chefs at an event last night, and the list featured two New Yorkers: Jonathan Benno of Per Se and David Chang, from Momofuku, who seems to be the underdog darling of the national food scene these days (and after eating his noodles, we're not really all that surprised, frankly). Benno and Chang, along with their fellow winners from across the country, will be featured in Food & Wine's chef issue which will hit the stands on June 15th.

Just five days until election, and it's like there's one of those grey, rainy clouds over Fernando Ferrer's head. Not that he or anyone from his campaign or his supporters will admit it, but even the trying-to-be-upbeat words are veiled with gloom. For instance, City Councilman Lewis Fidler tells the Times, "I'd be a moron to tell you I was confident. I'm a Met fan and I've been a Met fan since 1962, so I am not adverse to being the underdog, and I always believe in miracles because I've lived through them." Ouch. And Ferrer was struck with uncanny timing and attentiveness from city agencies when he tried to campaign at a subway station and park in Harlem to show how dirty they were, only to have cleanup crews try to stuff the crap into the closet and under the couch before TV crews came. Then the Campaign Finance Board has been warning his campaign that the NY State Democratic party's emails on his behalf may be illegal.

The Jets (11-6) visit top-seeded Pittsburgh (15-1) (Saturday, 4:30 p.m., TV: CBS, Radio: 1050 ESPN) in an AFC Divisional Playoff game. For those who haven't been paying attention, Pittsburgh has a rookie quarterback named Ben Roethlisberger (pictured impersonating Stevie Wonder - OK, a joke) who has yet to lose in his first 13 starts,an NFL record. Yes, last year the Giants could have easily drafted him rather than giving up an arm and a leg to trade for the top pic, but hindsight is 20/20 and the jury is still out on Eli. But curmudgeony critics point out he hasn't had any truly "big games" and "is due to lose".

Randolph, 50, re-joins the Mets after 11 years as a coach and 13 years as a player with the Yankees during which he won 6 championships. His final season as a player was in 1992 was with the Mets. His contract is thought to be for three years and worth $1.7 million.

And as reader Brian Van points out, since favored musical Wicked did not win, we'd like Times public editor Daniel Okrent to make good on his claim that "if [Wicked] loses the Tony I'll eat my black satin jacket from the road company of Jekyll and Hyde." You name the venue, Daniel!

And really, is this betrayal any worse than Al Gore's snub of former running mate Joe Lieberman by supporting Howard Dean? The future is bright for Adam, though: While falling for Melana is not the most dignified thing, it couldn't be avoided in the hothouse NBC created, and now the reality TV watching world knows he's a "millionaire" (though one with a roommate in typical bachelor digs; maybe he's thrifty). Perhaps the sequel is "Average Joe with Many Shallow Girls Fighting For Him." Gothamist got swept into Average Joe fever for the obvious reasons: Rooting for the underdog is such sweet sorrow. Someone who also knows about sweet sorrow, and lots of it, Red Sox fan Lockhart Steele.
