Happy first weekend of September - and happy Labor Day weekend, too, for our American cities! Let's take a look at what's been happening around the Ist-a-verse.

ART: Projecting on the outdoor walls of MoMA through February 12th will be Doug Aitken's first large-scale outdoor installation in the US. The installation consists of eight large moving projections in which five characters' lives are played out during one night in New York. Actors include: Tilda Swinton, Chan Marshall (Cat Power), Seu Jorge, Ryan Donowho, and Donald Sutherland.

- The UK Guardian weighs in with its picks for food blogs from around the world.

The NYTimes reports that kids born in the wintry months are more likely to store fat, thus setting themselves up for a higher risk of heart disease later in life. The UK-based study goes on to suggest that class might have something to do with it, too--if you don't have enough to eat, or access to proper healthcare, the cold weather's effects on your tiny baby body will be that much more intense.

Ah, the Scottish, what will they think of next? According to the Guardian, Burberry plaid, all the rage now, is considered the design of thugs by Scottish bar owners and bouncers, so much so that they will refuse to let anyone in wearing the plaid. One owner tells the Guardian, "I believe I speak for at least 90% of pub owners in Dundee. Burberry has become the badge of thuggery." While it's unclear what the Burberry menace have been doing, Burberry's respnse: "We need to keep this in perspective. The UK is only 15% of Burberry's worldwide sales." Man, if bouncers banned anyone wearing Burberry plaid in Manhattan, the bars on the Upper East Side and Murray Hill would have no business.
