The hot music ticket this weekend might just be the Pernice Brothers with The Tyde at Mercury Lounge tonight and tomorrow, and that's because both bands are actually really good. The Pernice Brothers's new album, Yours, Mine & Ours, is lovely and lyrical (listen) while The Tyde's, Twice, is totally joyful pop (listen).
It's settled: Gothamist is seeing The Tyde and The Pernice Brothers at Mercury Lounge on July 26. Got The Pernice Brothers' Yours, Mine & Ours and it's been in heavy rotation.
Gothamist's good friend Jon knows us well: He suggested we check out The Tyde, a California based band whose second album, Twice (and yes, their first album was called Once), was just released last month, and we're in love with the beautiful jangly pop. Mojo calls Twice "a lovely record of enormous warmth, balancing pop swing and measured savagery, lit by the late afternoon sun." Yes, in other words, perfect music for the summer.
