Update: The AP is reporting that DNA test results have shown that John Barnes is not the same man as the toddler kidnapped on Long Island 54 years ago. Jerry Damman, the father of the missing Stephen Damman, said to reporters, "It's too bad we had to go through all of this for actually nothing in the end." The story from earlier continues below.
Some two years after the fact, folks are still asking Alec Baldwin about The Voicemail. This time around it's not quite the sprawling New Yorker piece, but a short Playboy interview. The actor told the magazine that following the incident, he trusted The View as a safe forum where he could "get a fair shake." However, he quickly turned his back to another NYC morning show, declaring, "I'm on an NBC show, and Today was considered vital. But when that voice-mail tape thing happened, Matt Lauer interviewed [TMZ's Harvey] Levin before he even called me. Lauer put Levin on Today, and they never phoned me. When it’s in their interest to reach me, they know how. I saw that and said, ‘My relationship with the Today show is over.’ I’ll never do Today again, ever. Life’s too short." And as for 30 Rock, he plans to retire in 2012 when, presumably, he'll begin living a fantasy life with a new family that is unaware of his past life as a celebrity.
If you watched The Today Show this morning, you heard that weatherman and punmaster Al Roker had to take off early to serve jury duty today. Roker obviously detected the immediate sense of loss from his adoring fans and made sure to keep them up to date with his moment-to-moment whereabouts on Twitter...from inside the courthouse.
Tonight will be the final broadcasts at WNBC 4 for longtime sportscaster Len Berman. Berman will be on the 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts tonight and tells the Daily News, "I know they have a video and surprises planned at 6 p.m." Will one of those surprises be a goodbye kiss from Sue Simmons? His heart is likely racing to find out. As for what happens next, Berman tells the News, "I am happy to report there will be a next time." His signature segment of wacky highlights, "Spanning the World," will remain at its second home on . There hasn't been any word on further pink slips at WNBC, which has seen quite a few recently. As for his departure, Berman says he has "definitely mixed emotions." Here's to hoping that nobody got hurt.
Sure, proposing on the bustling pedestrian walkway of the Brooklyn Bridge seems picturesque, but perhaps being up there holding on to a tiny ring with your nervous, sweaty, about-to-propose hands isn't actually the best idea. One would-be-groom has learned that the hard way, and he showed up on the Today show earlier to tell his harrowing tale.
Jim Cramer was back on The Today Show for the first time since last week's extended interview on The Daily Show—where, by most accounts, he served as doormat for Jon Stewart's extended chastising of his and the rest of CNBC's behavior throughout the economic meltdown. And like a kid who sticks his tongue out once his parents have left the room following a spanking, Cramer took the opportunity this morning to finally stand up against Stewart's attacks. Following the segment's financial talk, The Daily Show discussion begins at around 3:08 below.
Hey, have you had that "Single Ladies" song by Beyoncé in your head? No? Well consider yourself immensely fortunate, and then get ready to have it lodged in there until well after the end of days. The recently-married performer was on the Today show in her spandex unitard belting it out bright n' early this morning. Enjoy!
This morning the Today Show took a look at the subway cars that retire from the underground of New York, and (at the cost of the MTA) are sent to create artificial reefs off the coasts of other cities. (The program may soon benefit us as well, however.) Consider the below clip subway-reef-porn, with footage of the old cars being made suitable for the sea, and dumped off barges to meet their final watery resting place.
Last week Miley Cyrus took GMA's Bryant Park stage, sans Hannah Montana wig, for an early morning concert. This morning she took her act over to The Today Show, while Feist owned the GMA crowd at Bryant Park. It wasn't a competition but...they did both bring their spirit fingers! And even though Miley is popular with the tweens, Feist is sure to win over the tots after her appearance on Sesame Street airs later this year.
Following the announcement that a judge will allow some of Naked Cowboy's lawsuit against Mars Inc. to move forward, the tighty-whitey bearing Robert Burck appeared on the Today Show this morning.
Last month the New Kids on the Block (or if you prefer, NKOTB) reunited on the Today Show to announce they were...reuniting. This morning they returned to play some tunes at a rainy Rockefeller Plaza (at press time a nostalgia-packed medley is going down), and fans lined the streets to get in. Guest of a Guest reports from the frontlines, saying, "we almost tripped over NKOTB votaries camping on 48th Street as we were en route to a lunch date at Saks."
One New York mother decided to let her 9-year-old son fend for himself in the city, and that mom would be NY Sun columnist Lenore Skenazy. In today's Sun, she gives the the play-by-play.
For those checking the New Kids on the Block website, hoping that rumors of the teen dream band making a comeback are true...you may find the ticking countdown clock scream-worthy. As reported by People magazine, the five-some will be performing on The Today Show this Friday, April 4th. Seriously, break out the acid wash, this is no April Fools joke.
His record is pretty impressive, he's organized 70 "real dates," 19 of which turned into relationships that lasted over a year. The numbers could be higher but Ibrahim is selective on who he sets up.
He listens to their conversations, asks them a few questions and then, if he thinks they are suitable, explains his matchmaking services and asks for their number and e-mail.Continue reading "Cupid Cabbie Cures NYC's Lonely Hearts"
An off-duty firefighter was charged with misdemeanor assault after he beat up a Brooklyn motorist in front of the driver's wife and two sons. Spagnola, who is with FDNY Engine Co. 28 and also posed as Mr. September in the 2005 edition of the FDNY's racy Calendar of Heroes, objected to Crespo's objections and soon enough, Crespo was out of his car getting brutally beaten by Spagnola and a his friend. The Daily News quotes Crespo's wife, "I was hysterical. My oldest child saw everything. He was afraid for his daddy."
We have lots of videos to get you in a Halloween state of mind while you undoubtedly are suffering from a sugar crash after too much office candy. Starting on September 10th, WNBC will be making a seismic shift on the local television landscape. Live at Five is gone, with infotainment show Extra taking its place at 5 p.m. with News 4 You remaining at 5:30 p.m. However, there will be not net loss of newscasts, since WNBC will be starting a new 7 p.m. newscast, but it is not as new an idea as it would seem, since WNYW aired a 7 p.m. newscast from 1987 to 1993. WNBC’s Station Manager and Senior Vice President of News, Dan Forman, noted: “Our news at 7pm meets the needs of viewers coming home from work and is a perfect compliment to ‘NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams,’ which precedes it.”

Carnegie Hall and Rockefeller Center. Don't you just love 'em? What would the city be like at Christmastime without the tourist-infested tree in the plaza? Or even worse, what if The Today Show's, Dr. Judith Reichman, had no outlet to provide the nation with her sound expert medical advice? And where else would be better to hear the intricacies of David Sedaris' sexy little voice than Carnegie Hall?
There was a segment on the Today Show yesterday morning that reminded us of something many of us will have to deal with at some point in our lives: hiring movers. The Today Show segment (sorry, there doesn't seem to be a corresponding article on their website) detailed the perils of choosing the wrong moving company; companies hang on to people's furniture if they don't pay, or just drive off with a truck full of all of their worldly possessions. There was an interview with one woman who was given an estimate and then, when the actual cost far exceeded the initial estimate, she couldn't pay and the moving company confiscated her things. She had to sue to get them back.
The Today Show has announced some of the performers of its Summer Concert Series, which stretches into the fall. By the looks of it, many more names will be announced later on. The Today Show also does "One Hit Wonders" type themes on some days.
