MOVIE: By now you've probably seen Grizzly Man. The Werner Herzog directed documentary depicts one (slightly off kilter) man's relationship with nature. Over the course of 13 summers, Timothy Treadwell lived amongst the animals - most notably the bears, in the Alaskan wild. You know this doesn't end well.

THEATER: It’s Friday night, and what better way to cut loose than an evening of interactive theater – set in plague-ravaged New York City! In All Fall Down, a savage battle rages for the dwindling supplies of the vaccine, but soon a question arises: "Is the cure worse than the disease?" Theatre Recrudescence vows to explore our “post 9/11 hysteria with elements of carnival, clowning and rock and roll.” (All Fall Down is in previews, so there are no reviews; we'll have to take them on their word that the show “includes the audience, but doesn't embarrass them.”) - John Del Signore
Au Revoir Simone is: Heather D'Angelo, Erika Forster and Annie Hart.
Siren is always a half-empty/half-full type situation. On one hand, you're getting top tier indie bands playing in New York City for free. On the other, you know going into it the sound will be lousy, the crowds unbearable and the heat incapacitating. Depending on how you play your expectations, it can be a great day or a miserable one. This was my 4th Siren, and while always prepared for the worst, it turned out to be a pretty fun day overall.
Aside from those last two, that's the foundation for a pretty good lineup. Actually, we don't really love the Stills either. We're psyched to finally see Stars on the bill though. And who doesn't love a little Cowbell by Tapes 'n Tapes? Listen: cowbell.mp3
Houstonist reports on cross-dressing thieves and undressing educators this week. A Peeping Tom defends himself with a papaya and an outraged onlooker asks Ken Lay, "TATER TOTS OR FRIES?" Also, FEMA wants it's money back.
There are a lot of free concerts in New York this summer. So many, in fact, we're struggling to keep up with all the festivals and park performances.
Tonight the Knitting Factory and the Onion are having a listening party for Wilco's . Of course, you could have been downloading the album off the Internet for the last three months, and the band's website was streaming the entire album well before its release. But...if you haven't heard it or just want to show up to get a handful of flyers and a free button, the event starts at 7pm. While you're there, there will be a band called Kash playing at the Tap Bar. Kash features Kelli Scar of the band Moonraker. She has an incredible voice and is well worth checking out.
