Columbia security, get that riot gear ready! Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minuteman Project, the pseudo-militia that patrols the border, tells the Columbia Spectator that, yes, he's up for a repeat appearance.

Columbia students and faculty walked out of classes to rally and march against the war in Iraq. In fact, the Columbia Coalition Against the War called the protest a "strike" and asked professors "to either cancel or allow students to miss class unpunished" so students would be able to participate, according to the Columbia Spectator. The group did request a police permit for 200 people, but expected up to 600 people.

The Village Voice has extensive September 11 coverage online, and one of the stories is about a movement from Stuyvesant High School students demanding health insurance after being exposed to the toxic dust when they returned to their school on Chambers Street. Lila Nordstrom, a senior during the 2001-2002 school year, sent a letter to officials:

"As victims of 9/11, and, especially, victims of the misinformation campaign, we served as ‘draftees' in the media campaign to reassure the American people. At the least, in recognition of the risks we undertook simply by attending school, we should be guaranteed health insurance for the rest of our lives."

Oh man-- we thought nothing would top the Lerner Student Center for ugliest new building in Morningside Heights, but it looks like the administrators at Barnard are gunning for the title with their Nexus building, scheduled for completion in 2009. The Spectator reports:

Those blogs, they're so hot right now. How hot are they? So hot that even the college newspapers are getting in on the action now.
