So a little movie called Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has opened at last. Fan-boys have live-blogged during the premiere, physicians have written open letters of protest deriding the movie’s myriad junk food tie-ins, Russian Communists have been offended, and archaeologists have condemned Dr. Jones for his “unethical” violation of international treaties. But is the long-awaited (by some) $185 million fourth installment of the George Lucas/Steven Spielberg franchise any good? Responses include everything from “the worst of the 'Indiana Jones' movies, but still pretty much a delight,” to “far from a travesty,” to “it's almost unfathomable that this hoary mishmash is the best that George Lucas and Steven Spielberg could cough up.”

THEATER: The fall theater season gets curiouser and curiouser with the start of The Alice in Wonderland Puppet Festival at HERE. (The festival, which is not recommended for children under twelve, will feature a tea party after every show.) Tonight curiouser & curiouser fuses text from Alice in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass, Lewis Carroll’s diary entries and his muse Alice Liddell’s memoirs to try to decipher what destroyed their unique friendship. - John Del Signore
One of the best movies to watch around this time is ET, with some Reece's Pieces of course. Above is the trailer, from 1982. Pretty dry, really, we imagine if the trailer was made now it would have an angle more like this one. Ah, trailer spoofs. The best trailer spoof turning a scary movie in to the exact opposite has got to be The Shining one that came out a while ago, watch here if you haven't already.
With Halloween coming next week and the fall chill in the air, this is the perfect weekend to curl up with a good scary movie. , starring Tim Robbins and Derek Luke. Set in South Africa during apartheid, Luke plays a family man politicized by the injustice in his country and Robbins is a police officer on the other side.
THEATER: 2 Husbands is a multimedia work in progress, but don’t let that scare you. It’s the budding creation of Brian Rogers and Ken Urban, whose innovative play I ♥ Kant made a big splash last month. His new collaboration is being developed at Long Island City’s Chocolate Factory and five bucks gets you a ticket and one complimentary drink. (We recommend the Bacardi and Ovaltine.) The production explores themes arising from the recent Terry Schiavo controversy and a true event from the mid-20th century in which a deceased black woman's cells were seized for scientific research without her family's knowledge. - John Del Signore
Warriors fans, grab your bats, face paint, and gang outfits because the Netflix Rolling Roadshow is hitting New York and showing the awesome 70's movie, The Warriors. They will be showing the movie at Asser Levy Park in Coney Island on Tuesday, August 2nd at 8:30. The coolest part of the day, however, will be before the movie when they have the "Warriors Subway Scavenger Hunt". The grand prize for the scavenger hunt is soooo awesome - nine leather "Warriors" vests (and brunch with the cast, which is nice as well). But what if you like the Baseball Furies or the pimptastic Boppers? And what about The Orphans - can't they just give their outfits out as prizes to everyone that attends the screening? We just wonder what some of the tasks of the scavenger hunt will be: knock a police officer with a billy club, make out with a woman in the subway tunnels as the train whizes by, or maybe spraypainting your gang's mark on the subway?
Too many times, we’ve suffered through a poorly directed film (or Brittany Murphy movie) and admitted the only aspect which kept us from banging our head up against the overpriced tub of popcorn was the trailer lineup. Sad, but for many of us, often the trailers are the best part of the money-sucking movie experience. Bam Cinematek understands our appreciation (as well as our ADD) and tonight at 7:00 PM, the theatre will present an entire evening of trailers, including campy hits (Bit Top Pee Wee), hilarious horror (Twisted Nerve), classics (The Shining), and even Orson Welles’ F for Fake. Thereafter, the audience gets to vote on their favorite trailer and the winning film will screen in December. And yes, we strongly suggest voting for The Shining. BAM, 30 Lafayette Avenue between Ashland Place and St. Felix Street; $10

Gothamist saw Libeskind with wife Nina in Tribeca the other weekend, and boy, they are tiny and are their glasses hip. A great Shining parody: The Simpsons' The Shinning. Daniel Libeskind's official site and the plans for Freedom Tower at the WTC site. Plus Gothamist on Libeskind.
Tonight marks the premiere of Comedy Central's new show, I'm With Busey, where a Busey fan hangs with Gary Busey. Phil Gallo of Variety says it might be addicting:
