Today is the NY State Presidential Primary. If you're a registered Democrat or Republican, you can find your polling place here. The Republican ballot it pretty straightforward - choose a candidate. However, the Democratic ballot is a little more confusing, since you can also select delegates for a candidates. Additionally, the NY State Democratic primary awards delegates on a proportional basis. The Daily News has the best explanation of what this means:A candidate who......

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani is busy trying to rally support in Florida, one of many big states with primaries in the coming weeks. He didn't really focus on the Iowa caucus (where he placed fifth - after Ron Paul) or New Hampshire (so he claims; he managed to place 4th, ahead of Ron Paul) and flew out of the Granite State before the polls were closed. His poor showing in the first two political showdowns......

Former mayor Rudy Giuliani may have participated in a Republican debate last night, but all anyone wants to talk about is how his possibly estranged daughter and incoming Harvard freshman Caroline joined a Barack Obama group on Facebook, as reported by Slate. Slate explained that "she withdrew from the Obama group at 6 a.m. Monday, after Slate sent her an inquiry about it." The article's author, Lucy Morrow Caldwell, was able to see Caroline......

Last night, former mayor Rudy Giuliani got a huge round of applause after tearing another candidate a new one about September 11. The Republican presidential candidates were participating in a Fox News Channel-sponsored debate in South Carolina, and the moment came when Representative Ron Paul of Texas discussed September 11. The video is above (the pertinent part comes at about 1:40 in) and here's how the NY Times described it: At one point, one......

Jonathan Tasini, the Democratic longshot challenger to Senator Hillary Clinton, aiming to make a splash at the primary on September 12, seems to be gaining a bit of media momentum. There are big stories about him in the Observer and NY Times today. The Observer details how Tasini met with the NY Times editorial board - resulting in a Monday editorial urging Clinton to pay attention to Tasini and an earlier NY Post editorial urging......

To few people's surprise, NY State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer was named the Democratic nominee this fall's Governor's race. And when you get the nomination, it's not just time to be kissy-poo - it's a time to get dirty. Some hilarious comments after Spitzer's nominations, via the NY Times:- Assemby Speaker Sheldon Silver called Governor Pataki's terms a "12-year-long plague." - Governor Pataki's office said, "After almost eight years as Shelly Silver's silent partner in......

Surprise, surprise. The Republican National Convention cost $150 million to put on. The NY Times points out the "19 hours of speeches and two years of planning" are "by far the most expensive such event in the nation's history." The numbers are staggering ($281,000 for President Bush's circular stage; over $200,000 on balloons), but it's not that shocking given that the first privately funded convention happened in NYC and the revelers were Republicans -......

The Republican National Convention opened yesterday with two of its more liberal politicians, Rudy Giuliani and Senator John McCain, taking the stage. Senator McCain, whose dalliances with the other side have confused the more right-leaning conservatives, won the affection of delegates by "mauling" Michael Moore, who was at the convention under the auspices of writing for USA Today. On the Today Show Tim Russert called Moore the GOP's favorite pinata; Moore, for his part, seemed......

The Republican National Convention hasn't even started, but Gothamist feels like it has! We can't decide if it's because every other thing we read is about the convention or if it's just wishful thinking...probably some of both. We can't wait to head to the West 30s to check out the helmets with surveillance cameras the Department of Homeland Security outfitted the Federal Protection Service with - they look like slightly more modern welders. Homeland Security......

The Republican National Committee gave the media a preview of their plans for next year's convention at Madison Square Garden, and it looks like the nation will see President Bush on a rotating stage at the center of room, sort of like a human Marriott Marquis rotating restaurant. (Gothamist suggests the GOP watch out with the number of rotations per minute, because we have a feeling the President might feel a little woozy, although seeing......
