We've heard our fair share of bad therapist stories over the years, but this one is pretty rough: a former model sued her therapist for setting her up on dates with his other clients and then demanding she recount the sexual encounters in vivid details. Hmm, men paying a middleman who encouraged his female client to have sex with them...what does that sound like?
Woman Sues Shrink For Sexual Voyeurism
In Video, Shrink's Alleged Killer Tries to Explain Cleaver Murder
The man accused of killing an Upper East Side psychologist with knives and a meat cleaver in February 2008 told detectives after his arrest, "I was trying to scare her." The 20 minute video of David Tarloff, recorded four days after he allegedly killed therapist Kathryn Faughey in her office, was played yesterday during a pre-trial hearing on Wednesday in State Supreme Court in Manhattan. In the video, Tarloff "appeared alternately coherent, confused and disturbed," the Times reports. And as detectives were about to leave the room, he told them:
School Psychologist Accused of Sexually Abusing Teen Patient
It's he said/he said in the case of the Staten Island school psychologist accused of sexually abusing a local teen in his home office. The unidentified boy, now 19, says his sexual relationship with the therapist, Boris Mirochnik, 56, started in 2006 and lasted for two years. He told police they "engaged in oral and anal sex... on several occasions," the Advance reports. But Mirochnik insists that's a gross exaggeration; he claims they only "displayed their genitalia to each other," and that's as far as it went. And Mirochnik claims he only showed his after the teen exposed himself and coaxed the alleged analrapist to reciprocate. An airtight defense!
UWS Couples Therapist Cuts Up Husband
A successful psychologist specializing in couples therapy faces felony assault and weapons-possession charges for slashing her husband with two kitchen knives on September 29th. Joyce Poster-Lederman, who practices on the Upper West Side and Riverdale, allegedly cut husband Selwyn Lederman, also a psychologist, during a domestic dispute in their West 84th Street apartment. Police sources say the marriage therapist got pissed during the argument and came at Lederman with a knife in each hand.
UES Shrink No Longer Can Take Patients on the Couch
The New York Health Department's Office of Professional Medical Conduct revoked the license of an Upper East Side therapist accused of having sex with two of his patients. One woman told the board that she had an affair with Dr. Reed Moskowitz that lasted 11 years while he saw her as a patient. A second woman accused the doctor of not only having sex with her, but paying for her abortion when she became pregnant with his child. Moskowtiz's defense was that the women were confusing fantasy with reality. The Post points out that on his website, he tells prospective patients that his "focus is on the client taking an active role in their healing process." Moskowitz is also a professor of psychiatry at NYU and apparently also lied on his application last spring by not revealing that he was under investigation for the sex crimes.
At Arraignment, Cleaver Killer Says He's "Not Stupid"
The man accused of slashing Upper East Side psychologist Kathryn Faughey to death and attacking another doctor was arraigned in court yesterday. And 39-year-old David Tarloff, a schizophrenic with a history of violence, made it quite an arraignment.
Shrink's Killer Nabbed; Intended Target Was Other Doctor
The police arrested a Queens resident for the murder of a therapist on the Upper East Side. David Tarloff, 39, apparently made "statement implicating himself" in the brutal death of Dr. Kathryn Faughey as well as the attack on Dr. Kent Shinbach, who Tarloff claimed institutionalized him in 1991. Tarloff, who is schizophrenic, has a history of violent crime.
Suspect Arrested in Upper East Side Therapist Murder
Update: Police have arrested David Tarloff, a Queens resident and former patient of Shinbach's, for Faughey's murder. The Post reports Tarloff, described as overweight with a bald spot by neighbors, has a history of violent crime. Apparently fingerprints found on suitcases left at the crime scene led the police to Tarloff.
Police Hunt for Man Who Hacked Therapist to Death
Update: The police questioned and released a man in Pennsylvania about the murders. The police apparently found the man, who had met Dr. Faughey and her husband at a guitar camp, by looking at Faughey's email.
