Where do the MTA's executive director and the TWU's president lunch? The Old Homestead! The NY Times reveals that Executive Director Elliot Sander ordered the rack of lamb while TWU President Roger Toussaint had the herb-rubbed roast chicken (what, no one ordered the Kobe Beef Hamburger?) and split the bill. If only we were a fly or a cow on the wall! We bet they discussed how much Pataki sucks, how the real time information boards will take forever to install, and how the new subway cars are pretty cool.

Claude Monet's letters sold for $1.7 million yesterday at Artcurial, much more than the $600,000 expected. There were about a thousand in the collection. Some went to private collectors, while others went to the Musee d'Orsay, which recently also acquired Monet's Wind Effect, Series of The Poplars. Michel Cornebois, Monet's only living direct descendent, gave the letters to the French auction house.

"Radio Sweetheart, Boy Detective, It's The Sound of Young America . Maximum Fun! Maximum Fun!" The Sound of Young America (TSOYA) was recently named "Pick of the Podcasts" by Time Magazine and Salon.com's Audiofile said, " "If you've never heard of TSOYA, then TSOYA is the greatest radio show you've never heard of." Of course, I've heard of it; I'm a subscriber. That's why when I found out its host Jesse Thorn was coming to New York with his sketch group Prank the Dean, I knew I had to interview him. And interview him I did!

With the harrowing (and crazy - you've seen the looting video) news footage of Katrina's wake in Louisianna and Mississippi and Louisiana governor's announcement that everyone must leave New Orleans, New Yorkers have been working to help out the affected, whether by heading down there or helping raise money.

Gothamist has a history with Sasha Petraske. We were frustrated with how long it took for us to get into Milk & Honey but, eventually, got the number, got in and were amazed. We were frustrated at how long it took for The East Side Company to open but, eventually, we lost patience and just pushed the heavy door, introducing ourselves when the sawdust cleared and went back for some great parties and painstakingly made drinks since. This month Little Branch joins these spots (and a London branch of Milk & Honey) in Mr. Petraske's burgeoning empire and we think it's a fine addition. Down a flight of stairs at a somewhat precious intersection in the West Village, this is far more accessible than Milk & Honey (no reservations required, no unlisted number required to make reservations), but still more intimate than The East Side Company.

This weekend seems to be all about the music. Outside, in parks, on rooftops. It'll be everywhere, and here is where we would be if we were you...

826NYC has had some good events in the past, and they keep on comin'. Up next...

Early showers, clearing up pretty quickly for a sunny day. High of 74.
