- Mets 5 Pittsburgh 4: El Duque struck out eight, but he was also wild, walking five and allowing three runs over six innings. Moises Alou gave the Mets the lead with a two-run single in the eighth and Lastings Milledge made a great catch in the bottom of the inning to preserve the win. Billy Wagner worked a flawless ninth for his 27th save.

- Yankees 11 Mets 8: This game had a little bit of everything, a balk, a rain delay, four home runs, eight stolen bases, a switch-hitter batting righty against a righty and a sweaty finish for the Yankees. The Mets jumped out to the lead in the first after Tyler Clippard made the mistake of walking Jose Reyes. Reyes stole second and scored on a single by David Wright. Ruben Gotay homered to make it 2-0 Mets, but the Yankees tied it up in the bottom of the second.

-Eastern Conference 98, Western Conference 82: A day after the most popular All-Star Game in American sports, the WNBA's best took the floor at Madison Square Garden. Each year, the Wednesday following baseball's All-Star game is derided by sports fans as the worst day of the sports calendar. Despite the WNBA's efforts, Wednesday wasn't that exciting. The Liberty's Becky Hammon didn't play because of an injury. With the game out of reach in the final seconds, an impromptu slam dunk contest broke out. Alas, neither Diana Taurasi nor Michelle Snow could dunk the ball.
Last Night's Action: Rivals Defeat Locals
- Red Sox 9, Mets 4: The Mets had their chances against Jon Lester, loading the bases twice, but the rookie pitcher got out of the jams and the Red Sox won their 10th straight game. Alay Soler had his worst outing of the season, aided by a Lastings Milledge misplay of a fly ball into a two-run double in the fourth inning. The biggest scare for the Mets wasn't Big Papi or Manny Ramirez, but Jose Reyes bouncing off Jason Varitek's leg in the 5th inning. Luckily for the Mets, Reyes escaped without major injury. Tonight, Pedro Martinez returns to the mound in his first game against his former team.

- Orioles 6, Mets 3: For the Mets, their 8-game winning streak had to end sometime, and that sometime was last night against the Orioles in a rematch of the 1969 World Series. Alay Soler struggled at the start of the game, but it he pitched well enough to give the Mets a chance for their 9th straight victory. Aaron Heilman blew the save and the Mets chances at victory in the 7th inning when he allowed 4 runs.
Last Night's Action: Yankees Defeat Surprising Tigers in Extra Innings
- Yankees 11, Tigers 6: The Yankees exploded for 5 runs in the 11th inning against the Tigers in Detroit last night. Jason Giambi got it started with a solo home run before the rest of the team got in on the action. Mariano Rivera was stellar in relief, picking up the win after pitching three innings of 1-hit ball.
Liberty Down Defending Champs
Becky Hammon led the Liberty with 20 points and went 4 of 11 on 3-point shots, and one crucial assist to Donaphin on the winning shot. The game was played in front of a crowd of 9,785, not exactly a sell-out crowd at Madison Square Garden.
