THEATER: A new multimedia opera called Violet Fire centers on legendary inventor Nikola Tesla, who not only claimed over 700 patents but also inspired basically the most wicked band ever. Part of the BAM Next Wave Festival, the show conceptualizes the inner life of the man whose famous “waking hallucinations” led to great breakthroughs in electricity (alternating current, hydroelectric power), wireless broadcasting (radio transmission), robotics (remote control), and mind-blowing guitar riffs. (Ends Saturday!) - John Del Signore

Movable Hype 2.0ver
Thanks to everyone who came out to the Knitting Factory last night to help us celebrate our 2nd birthday. The music was amazing (and the cupcakes were good too). Speaking of music, thanks to Coolfer and Stereogum for deejaying and The Cloud Room, Other Passengers, The Information and Elkland for playing. We hadn't seen Other Passengers live before and they totally blew us away, we even forgot to take pictures during their set, THAT is how transfixed we were. To help us piece it all together, here are some images of the night:
The Gothamist Band Interview: The Information
The Information are Max Fresen (vox), Zack Wells (guitar), Deb Grant (guitar), Heath Fradkoff (bass), Brad Kayal (drums), Ashley Moody (keys, vox). Max took some time this week to answer our questions...
Gothamist Turns Two
Hey, shorty, it's our birthday (shorty)! Gothamist is very happy that we're at this tremendous milestone, the Terrible Twos, and want to thank all of you for your support and encouragement. We didn't know what we were getting ourselves into on that fateful day(s - we had a beta period), and we're glad, because it's been an incomparable two years. For starters, Gothamist is just getting comfortable in talking English better - maybe someday we'll figure out this whole spelling thing!
Movable Hype 2.0
Gothamist's Movable Hype 2.0 is tomorrow! It's our birthday as well, so come down to the Knitting Factory (main space) around 8pm tomorrow night and help us enter our terrible two's.
Movable Hype 2 and 3
Movable Hype 2 is coming up on February 16th. This time around we'll be back at the Knitting Factory main space and you get Elkland, The Information, Other Passengers and The Cloud Room for only $10! Tickets are on sale now, buy them here.
Mid Winters Sell-Outs
great, but want to check them out for ourselves, since we do like this video. Also check out the last sell outs post for more info on future shows we're not relisting here.
Movable Hype 2.0 @ the Knitting Factory
Last night was our Movable Hype 1.5 show at Pianos. Thanks to the bands and everyone who came out! We all had a lot of fun despite Pianos double booking problems, but hey, that stuff happens. Luckily, we already have Movable Hype 2.0 all set up and it's back at the Knitting Factory.
