Corey Johnson designed the site, using color and event information from the Empire State Building and overlaying it on an image of the building - there's even a widget. For the recent past and the for the upcoming......

Yesterday was the NY Road Runners Club's 30th Annual Empire State Building Run-up. And, yes, the runners were wearing shorts and T-shirts when they emerged on the skyscraper's roof. Thomas Dold (above, left) of Germany won the men's race in 10 minutes and 25 seconds while Suvy Walsham (above, right) of Singapore (and Australia, apparently) won the women's in 13 minutes 12 seconds. (American Cindy Moll-Harris finished second, at 13:24.) The Empire State Building's......

Oh, it's New York City's best friend, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, writing a NY Times op-ed piece to tell us "New York, You're Still No. 1." Well, that's the headline the Times copy crew designated for the article, which is Chertoff's way fo explaining why NYC got shafted in funding allocation for the Urban Areas Security Initiative. We outline his points:- NY still gets the most funding; in fact, its $124 million......

To be filed in the "totally crazy, harmless stuff that happens on tall buildings": "Renowned daredevil" Jeb Ray Corliss tried to jump off the 86th floor observation deck at the Empire State Building. The only thing is that somebody called in a tip to the police saying this would happen, so security was on the watch and ultimately able to stop him. Of course, Corliss managed to jump over the safety fence and was......

Graduate students at Columbia Unversity's School of Journalism have put together the fifth issue of NYC 24, which documents 24 hours in the life of New York. It's a rich look at what a couple different people did on April 18, 2004 - whether it's going to a club, checking out a street fair, or marking Holocaust Remembrance Day (be sure to check out the audio, video, and slideshows that accompany stories). A project to......

The Empire State Building was opened to the public on this day in 1931. The view from the ESB, in the heart of Manhattan, is truly magnificient; tien and neil have some great photographs of the view from the Empire State Buliding.
