COMEDY: This weekend marks the 9th Annual Del Close Marathon. Del Close, if you don't know by now, "was the driving force behind improvisational comedy in Chicago for over 30 years influencing Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Mike Myers, John Belushi, Chris Farley and the Upright Citizens Brigade to name a few." The annual weekend began after Del's passing in 1999.

John Hodgman is everywhere! Not that we are complaining of course, but Gothamist has already seen his interview from the Daily Show repeated, he was at Mo Pitkins earlier this week, and tonight he will be a guest at How to Kick People. Surely there will be talk of hobos, but there will also be other guests, including Onion editor Carol Kolb, comedian Susie Felber and Andy Friedman & The Other Failures. If you aren’t able to make the show, Hodgman does have a limited edition blog composed of twenty electronic messages devoted to all the areas of his expertise.

An activist arrested for disrupting President Bush's Republican party nomination during last year's Republican National Convention had all charges dropped yesterday. The D.A.'s office accused June Brashares of a couple crimes, including assaulting two volunteers who hauled her out of MSG, but when jurors believed Brashares and other witnesses. According to indymedia, "One trial observer writes: 'The pathetic arguement by DA...may have disolved next to great defence summation.'" In game one, Mike Mussina gave up three runs in the first inning and the Yankees managed only one run and three hits off Johan Santana. Lucky for the Yankees, the Twins have already clinched. Santana was pulled after five innings to rest for the playoffs which begin next week. After Santana left, the Yankees were free to have their way with them - okay, not really, but they notched four runs in the 7th inning and went on to win 5-3 (box score).
The MTA will be reopening four lines of subways on the Manhattan Bridge by February 2004. N-train riders will be able to ride express from Brooklyn into midtown - instead of going through Chinatown. B and D trains will now go south of Herald Square, connect at Grand Street again, and move on into Brooklyn. This should ease the traffic on 2, 3, 4 and 5 trains between Brooklyn and Manhattan.
The Daily News has a subway exclusive:
Famed ad agency D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles - which handled the Coca-Cola account in 1906 - fell victim to ad industry consolidation while under BCom3 and had to close its doors, shedding clients and employees alike. Now, AdAge says that what's left of DMBB is to be called 'CHEMISTRI'. Ew. Sounds likes a 15 year-old girl's idea of "cute" and a way to have another "i" dotted with a heart. Also, the name is "a recycled one -- it was previously used by Burnett for the Internet agency that became iLeo last year. The D'Arcy name will now disappear." Pretty stupid, for professionals who claim to have experience in naming things.
