EVENT: Come feel the love at the hotel QT tonight, as the Love party returns. Get those swimsuits out of storage, because there's a pool! And don't worry, the open vodka bar (8-9) will help you warm up.

READING: The BRIC Rotunda Gallery and New York Magazine are having another of their Stoop Series tonight. New York Magazine's contributing editor, Logan Hill, will talk with New York's newest young filmmakers: Ramin Bahrani, Julia Loktev and Chris Zalla. What else? Free drinks! Beer and Johnny Walker Blue Label, to be exact.

We're starting a new feature here called Tour-ist. Get it? Okay, let us explain.

FASHION: This is an early one, fashionistas. The Brooklyn Public Library is hosting a round table discussion today on Fashion and Beauty trends. Come. Learn. Be pretty.

We love music videos that show pieces of the city. Lucky for us, with all of the bands in this city - many have produced NY-centric videos.

We'd been gearing up for SXSW this year for months, with shows to plan and afterparties to help out with - it took up a lot of our time, even when we weren't there yet. Now that it's over, we're not quite sure what to do with ourselves, or how to recap it all. We also haven't been near a computer in a week, so bear with our slow typing.

Last year Gothamist headed down to Austin for SXSW to help launch Austinist amongst other things. This year we're headed back down to throw our own Austinist + Gothamist day party. We'll have a pretty flyer and more details to post on that soon, but for now we're going to tell you about the afterparty...

In February of 2005, we booked New York band The Cloud Room to play our 2nd Movable Hype show. We had heard their song Hey Now Now and it instantly stuck in our head like peanut butter to the roof of one's mouth. This is how it was for everyone we talked to. We'd even venture to say that a song hasn't stuck in our head like that since.

Come join us TONIGHT at our Movable Hype Anniversary Show. Just a year ago we threw our first show/concert/party at the Knitting Factory. Since then we've actually thrown 4 more there, tonight is the 5th. In addition we've had a slightly smaller version of the show at Pianos and one comedy (Laughable Hype) show at Tonic. Technically that means this is lucky number 7, but we'll still call it 5 (because we never were very good with numbers.)

"Last year Elton John declared that Rufus Wainwright was the greatest songwriter on the planet. Quite a profound statement from the king of pop himself. This was presumably based on hearing 2004's Want One, followed earlier this year by the groundbreaking opus, Want Two." Elly Roberts goes on to say that Wainwright's recent show at The Lowry was "An epic night, and a high watermark of a musician on top of his game, who has single headedly changed the possibilities of popular music." Our hometown (via Rhinebeck, New York and Canada) hero headlines the Beacon Theater two nights in row this week. We're especially excited about Wednesday's show. Regina Spektor is opening.

Show starts at 8pm sharp!

We just got word in that two of our favorite comedians will be hosting the Movable Hype 5.0 Anniversary Special Show (we're trying to make that title as long as possible)...so we thought we'd share the news with you:

So we've been waiting to confirm our last band for Movable Hype 5.0 and we can now do so. Since we wanted to bring back 3 acts from previous shows we chose our favorites, one of which was so busy touring Europe with the Editors and We Are Scientists, playing shows with Maximo Park and hosting Mtv's Subterranean that it took them a while to fit us in, but alas, they finally have...so here's who you'll see on November 2nd:

MUSIC: Tonight at Crash Mansion there's a free show and a free open bar...and for a good cause. Morning Theft, The Cloud Room, My Victoria, and The Rats will all perform for a second part of a benefit for Kia Nowotne. As an added bonus we hear our favorite artist, Michelle McShane, will be joining the Cloud Room for a few songs, playing autoharp.

This week is full of shows by some of our favorite new artists. On the high-profile end of the spectrum, The Hold Steady are back at Bowery Ballroom for a two night run Friday and Saturday. We're especially interested in checking out the openers on Friday. It's the Pitchfork-approved, Coldplay-tour-opening, Village Voice weird album of the week winning band called Black Mountain. On Sunday, M.I.A. plays her biggest and freeest NYC show yet at Summerstage. Superstar DJ Diplo is on the bill too, though it's questionable whether he'll show up. He definitely plays Friday with RJD2 on a Rocks Off Concert Cruise though.

Happy Monday. Today's music post will only list tonight's shows. Check back tomorrow for the rest of the week's events.

Hello Gothamist readers. Allow me to introduce myself. Some of you may know me as the music-obsessed blogger over at BrooklynVegan.com. Now you'll also know me as the music-obsessed blogger here at Gothamist. I'll attempt to keep you informed of the shows you don't want to miss each and every week. I'll try my best not to miss anything, not make mistakes, and bring you as much variety as possible, but unfortunately I'm only human. Work with me. Use the comment section to offer your own recommendations, suggestions, and corrections. And now on to the shows...

Here it is, our last piece of SXSW coverage. The warm sun has snuck out of our skin and we can barely taste the frozen avocado margaritas anymore, so for anything Austin related in the future you'll have to go here.

Passed out.

Luckily for us, New York didn't feel too far away as we bumped into a few of our favorite downtown bands. The Cloud Room, Asobi Seksu and Morning Theft were all there enjoying the festivities. We had a chance to catch The Cloud Room yesterday at the Fader/Levi's party and will be telling you all about it after our nap. For now, check out photos here of our time in Austin thus far.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Knitting Factory last night to help us celebrate our 2nd birthday. The music was amazing (and the cupcakes were good too). Speaking of music, thanks to Coolfer and Stereogum for deejaying and The Cloud Room, Other Passengers, The Information and Elkland for playing. We hadn't seen Other Passengers live before and they totally blew us away, we even forgot to take pictures during their set, THAT is how transfixed we were. To help us piece it all together, here are some images of the night:

Hey, shorty, it's our birthday (shorty)! Gothamist is very happy that we're at this tremendous milestone, the Terrible Twos, and want to thank all of you for your support and encouragement. We didn't know what we were getting ourselves into on that fateful day(s - we had a beta period), and we're glad, because it's been an incomparable two years. For starters, Gothamist is just getting comfortable in talking English better - maybe someday we'll figure out this whole spelling thing!

Gothamist's Movable Hype 2.0 is tomorrow! It's our birthday as well, so come down to the Knitting Factory (main space) around 8pm tomorrow night and help us enter our terrible two's.

Movable Hype 2 is coming up on February 16th. This time around we'll be back at the Knitting Factory main space and you get Elkland, The Information, Other Passengers and The Cloud Room for only $10! Tickets are on sale now, buy them here.

Last night was our Movable Hype 1.5 show at Pianos. Thanks to the bands and everyone who came out! We all had a lot of fun despite Pianos double booking problems, but hey, that stuff happens. Luckily, we already have Movable Hype 2.0 all set up and it's back at the Knitting Factory.

So it's almost time to go home for the holidays, and you as a New Yorker have to bring the best presents. You know that right? The rest of your non-New Yorker friends and family look to you for your urban hipness, don't let them down.

A few weeks ago someone told Gothamist about this band called The Cloud Room. We went to their site, gave them a listen...and immediately asked them if they'd like to play at our show coming up in November. They couldn't do it this time around...but we still love them. They give the 80's pop resurgence we're hearing from so many bands right now a bit of a darker edge. A thickly lined beat and dreamy vocals over the typical wall of strum makes them stand under a bit of a different light than the other bands we've seen lately. Lucky for us they're about to go into the studio to record an album, and until you can put them on your iPod we suggest you catch them live (details below).
