MUSIC: When we talked to Jonny Greenwood (pictured) back in October, Radiohead's In Rainbows wasn't the only focus. His composition titled Popcorn Superhet Receiver will be performed tonight by The Wordless Music Orchestra with Brad Lubman as conductor. When we asked Greenwood if he would be in attendance, he said "I’d love to but I can’t really justify the flight just to come to that. I’d feel a bit weird about it. If I was in America already for touring or something I’d love to go but I can’t really justify it. It’s a shame." Since you won't be using as many carbon emissions to get there, we suggest you go.

Jonny Greenwood was named the BBC’s composer-in-residence in 2004; during this time he debuted "Popcorn Superhet Receiver", a twenty-minute work for string orchestra inspired, in part, by the phenomenon of white noise and Penderecki’s "Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima". Tickets are on sale for a two-night performance of the composition at The Church of St. John the Apostle in January as part of The Wordless Music Series; works by John Adams and Gavin Bryars will also be performed.

Yesterday Merv Griffin lost his battle to prostate cancer at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles at the age of 82. He received his first treatment for this in 1996 and in late July of this year it was publicized that the cancer had come back. In a statement on Merv.com his son Tony said: "My father was a visionary. He loved business and continued his many projects and holdings even while hospitalized. We take solace in knowing that until the end he had his two favorites by his side--his family and his work. His legacy will be honored through the continuing operations of The Griffin Group under its current leadership and by the millions of lives he continues to affect through entertainment."

Owner of the bakery, Peter Silvestri was there serving warm food and sweet treats to all."

It's a post-Christmas miracle! The Church of St. Mel - it looks like most of the money will be recovered. The police have arrested two men in connection with the dastardly Christmas Day crime of stealing money for the poor from a Queens church. Daniel Morales was arrested yesterday when the police traced his car to his home. Morales's wife did call in the SUV used in the heist as being stolen, but that was apparently too late for the police's liking. Morales' lawyer, though, says his client is innocent: "He's a hardworking, nice man who finds himself in this situation. He's maintained his innocence to police throughout the questioning." Morales reportedly posed as a deliveryman during the heist - we believe the police would have put Morales in a line-up for the pastor and other church ushers to see!

READINGS: Jennifer Paddock will be at the Borders to read from her sophomore novel, , which follows a young writer, Caroline, as she leaves her MFA program and seeks out stories in the devastated wake of Hurricane Ivan. Paddock combines her story with Caroline's writing, which is an interesting technique, if not a little meta. - Krissa Corbett Cavouras

- Five parishioners are petitioning a Judge to investigate the churches books. The Church says the charge lacks "any factual or legal basis" and backs it up by showing their audited books to the Post.

New York's Sea Ray have been around since the late nineties, becoming increasingly popular in recent years, finding success by complimenting layers of lush guitar with rich cello. This chamber-pop sextet have shared the stage with a wide range of great bands, including a North American tour with indie godfathers, The Church. Sea Ray are Anne Brewster (cello), Colin Brooks (drums), I-Huei Go (bass), Jeff Sheinkopf (keyboards), Jordan Warner (vocals, guitar) and Greg Zinman (guitar). Gothamist has a few questions for keyboardist - and mini-brass section - Sheinkopf and captivating cellist Brewster.
