Beatrice Inn Reopening With A Little Help From Graydon Carter

Beatrice Inn Reopening With A Little Help From Graydon Carter

The hot-for-a-hot-second Beatrice Inn has been closed since 2009 and the names that made it famous have moved on to other hot-for-a-hot-second restaurant-cum-nightspots. So naturally it is time for the Beatrice, which was once a restaurant and before that a speakeasy for many a year, to make a comeback. And, since he's already got one Village Inn on his resume, you probably won't be shocked to know that Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter is involved in the new Bea. more ›

Beatrice Inn's Sign Stolen!

Beatrice Inn's Sign Stolen!

A network of thieves is banking on someone caring enough about the now-shuttered Beatrice Inn that they'll actually pay real money to retrieve its stolen sign. The Imaginary Socialite received the above image last night via a text from a blocked phone number—it shows the sign has been removed from the old Beatrice, and now resides in someone's apartment. more ›

Paul Sevigny Takes On "Corporate" Nightlife

Paul Sevigny Takes On "Corporate" Nightlife

Some people like to go to over-priced and over-hyped clubs at night where they are made to feel really exclusive and important, and right now there's some sort of power struggle going on over who owns these people. Not, like, owns. But you know... who's the sheep herder, or, as they call it, "the king of nightlife"? more ›

R.I.P. Beatrice Inn?

R.I.P. Beatrice Inn?

Despite the efforts of Chloe Sevigny's t-shirt, it looks like the West Village's Beatrice Inn, which has been closed since April, will not reopen. The NY Post reports that in order to get the party started again, "they'd have to pay $23,000 in fines, install a fire door that matches the period exterior of the building, and put in a sprinkler system." And since their liquor license runs out next year, and will not be renewed at that time, the owners have decided to call it quits. Looks like the neighbors win this one. In the past they had complained about the club, including the late-night traffic that streamed into an apartment upstairs which was used as a VIP lounge for the often A-list clientele. Owner Paul Sevigny even moved one such neighbor into the VIP lounge apartment rent-free when he complained about the noise in his own residence, which was above the noisy dance floor. more ›

Is Beatrice Inn Going D-List During Recession?

Is Beatrice Inn Going D-List During Recession?

Quelle horror! This recession thing is really real now, people. The Observer is reporting that the Beatrice Inn has been forced to let in out-of-town no-names because they allegedly need their dirty hard-earned bridge and tunnel money...or do they? The West Village bar is famously run by Chloë Sevigny's brother Paul, and on top of a strict door policy it boasts a hefty regulars list of the young, beautiful and bold-faced. But now the patrons have noticed they're letting just about anyone in these days.

“It’s just a totally different crowd now,” said a 22-year-old model, who until recently was a regular at the bar. “I’ve seen the doorman let in Jersey trash—girls dressed in like H&M and Forever 21—sleazy guys looking to pick up underage girls, Gossip Girl wannabes, and like C-list celebrities,” the model continued. “It’s just not the same. People stagger up and ask for autographs and they take photos with cell phone cameras. Before, anyone who would be doing that would never be allowed in. It’s going the way of other clubs like Bungalow 8.”
One regular had a more upbeat outlook, however, saying that the usual crowd is simply too cold to leave their lofty lairs at the moment (or maybe they're in Atlantic City?). Meanwhile, Mr. Sevigny assured the paper, "If anything, the Beatrice’s door policy has gotten tighter, not looser. We don’t make a ton of money, but we do pride ourselves on having one of the toughest door policies in New York City. I guarantee you we will be the last to sell out.” Sorry, Jersey (or anyone not approximately this cool), take your pedestrian names and synthetic poly-blends back from whence they came! more ›

Atlantic City: the Hamptons for Hipsters?

Last month, word on the Boardwalk was that two former Atlantic City hotels (the Howard Johnson and Holiday Inn) would morph into a boutique hotel named the Chelsea (no relation). Further bringing a Manhattan feel to the has-been Jersey destination is the oft-celeb-drenched scene of Manhattan's Beatrice Inn; the club's operators, Paul Sevigny and Matt Abramcyk amongst them, have been charged with creating "a vibe." The collaboration had AC's Visitors Authority declaring, “The New York hipsters are coming to Atlantic City." more ›
