The Under the Radar festival of cutting edge international theater, curated by former P.S. 122 artistic director Mark Russell, continues through next weekend. Here’s a brief rundown of three shows seen so far.

Kingswood: Aussie owner of Nolita's Ruby's takes the leap from sandwich shop to sit-down restaurant. With the feel of an indoor garden, Kingswood serves up dishes like cured duck breast with fig chutney, a roasted peach salad with crispy prosciutto and white balsamic or a rack of lamb with tomato orzo. In late October, the space will expand to include a downstairs lounge. 121 West 10th Street between Greenwich and Sixth Avenues. (212) 645-0044.

  • Justine Henin took care of Svetlana Kuznetsova to win the U.S. Open title in straight sets. She didn't just win the final in straight sets, she went a perfect 14-0 in her seven matches. Is it too much to ask to see a compelling women's final every once in a while? There hasn't been a third set at the U.S. Open since 1995. The French Open has had six consecutive straight-sets wins. The Australian Open's streak is five, with Wimbledon's just two. Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic will try to put on a better show Sunday after both won in -- yep -- straight sets in their semifinals.

  • The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. has secured the votes necessary to purchase Dow Jones & Co., Inc. which includes The Wall Street Journal itself. The win comes after a lengthy proxy battle in which the Bancrofts––the family that has acted as stewards of the company from afar for more than a century––resisted a very generous overture from Murdoch.

After yesterday's news that Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin had died off an Australian coast while filming a segment for a series on oceanlife, it now turns out that his death was caught on film. Irwin's official cause of death was a heart attack, but it was a heart attack caused by being stabbed through the heart by stingray's poisonous barb. Authorities have reviewed the tape and said that there "was no evidence [Irwin] provoked the animal" - which is what many people had been speculating about, since stingrays generally do not attack (they just scurry away). At any rate, we imagine the authorities and Irwin's associates will destroy the tape - if that got into the wrong hands...

This wouldn't, of course, be the first time that a woman has played a man, or vice versa. The Australian actress and the Duluth musician don't have that much physically in common, but that's no matter. There will also be a lot of other actors playing Dylan.

The win was an emotional one for the team, as their coach, Mike Candrea, lost his wife to a brain aneurysm more than a month ago. Candrea will not be getting a medal, as Olympic rules dictate. After the ceremony, Lisa Fernandez, the winning pitcher said, "I wished I could have switched places with him, because he truly deserved to be on the podium.'' Fernandez now has her third gold medal, and we at Gothamist kind of wonder if she'll make a gesture to give Candrea a medal.
