Brooklyn musician Michael Leviton and his girlfriend Leah Hayes have put their own apartment at center stage, after declaring their old hang, The Sidewalk Cafe, so over. They moved the scene to their East Williamsburg apartment at the end of 2006, calling it The Apartment. Now it's no longer much of a secret, and it may also be so over (though for different reasons).

Before you bite into one of the signature hot-pressed sandwiches invented by first-time restaurateur John Gargiulo, you will notice the vibrant green interior, employees in design-savvy uniforms, and a custom-designed heimlich maneuver sign hanging in Swich, his new 8th Avenue eatery. With a logo, menu, interior, and uniforms designed by Soho-based design firm, The Apartment, Gargiulo, who comes from a background in advertising, knows a new sandwich needs to do more than just taste good--it has to too.

As the days tick down toward the end of the year -- also known as the deadline for Oscar eligibility -- and people start taking time off for the holidays, distributors are squeezing new releases into theaters trying to grab a piece of the box office and Awards season pie. The calendar conspires against the big studios this year who love to release films on Christmas day, and this year is no exception even though with the holiday falling on Sunday, that means a one-day weekend.

Get readyThe weather is a mixed bag this weekend as we stick around the city this weekend (we're glad we won't need to follow Gawker's rules of conduct for getting to the Hamptons - we've seen people getting on and off the Jitney and it looks worse than the school bus we had to take). We've been trying to think of what we want to do, and have come up with some ideas that we'd like to share:
