The NYPD has flooded the city with checkpoints and bomb detectors as they search for suspects in a "specific, credible but unconfirmed threat" involving car bombs to coincide with the tenth anniversary of 9/11. According to the Daily News, officials are now nervous that the terror threat suspects may be posing as construction workers to get close to tomorrow's memorial service. Currently, they are searching for three missing vehicles, including two belonging to Tully Construction in Queens, which is doing roadwork on West Street near WTC.

City Clamps Down As Authorities Ramp Up Search For Terror Threat
Police have flooded the streets, subways, and bridges of the city as they search for suspects in a "specific, credible but unconfirmed threat" involving car bombs to coincide with the tenth anniversary of 9/11. One NYPD lieutenant on patrol told the News that the heightened-security was unprecedented: "In more than 40 years, I've never seen this kind of all-out attention." Another NYPD official made a more specific connection to the current mobilization: "This is our version of Bush's shock and awe. The idea is to scare off a sophisticated network - let alone three men."
Terror Threat Suspects Include American Citizen, NYPD Searching Vehicles
Investigators are trying to track down at least three men believed to be involved in a "vehicle-borne" terrorist attack anticipated in NYC or Washington D.C. to coincide with the tenth anniversary of 9/11. The three men traveled by plane to the U.S. last month from Afghanistan, one law enforcement official tells the Times, adding that one of the men is an American citizen. ABC reports that two of the individuals may have had U.S. documentation, and hears they came from tribal areas of Pakistan, where the threat intelligence originated.
Wall Street Execs Warned They Are Al Qaeda Targets
Al Qada terrorists in Yemen have apparently been plotting to attack some Wall Street firms and their executives, prompting intelligence officials to warn the Masters of the Universe. According to NBC New York, "Intelligence officials stress the threats are general in nature and there is 'no indication of a targeted assassination plot' against any Wall Street executive. But NBCNewYork.com has learned officials fear the names of some top banking executives have been discussed by terror operatives overseas."
NYC's Bridges & Tunnels Allegedly Threatened
According to the NY Post, Port Authority police increased security after learning of a terrorist threat "advising them to be on the lookout for a fuel-filled tanker meant to explode prior to a secondary blast designed to decimate any first responders... The chilling warning was read at roll call for four police commands - cops assigned to the Holland and Lincoln Tunnel; the George Washington Bridge; and also the Staten Island command, which incorporates the Bayonne and Goethals Bridge and the Outerbridge Crossing, a source said."
City Will Do "Everything Possible" To Protect NYers
After the apparent suicide bombings in two Moscow subway stations that left 39 dead yesterday, the NYPD increased its presence at subway station around the city. Mayor Bloomberg condemned the attacks, "The New York City Police Department stepped up its patrol of the subways. We will learn from the terrible tragedy in Moscow, as we do from every terrorist incident around the world, and we will continue to do everything possible to protect our transit system - and our entire City - from the threat of terrorism."
Atlantic Terminal Bollards Exceed NYPD Standards
The concrete-and-granite bollards designed to ward off terrorist attacks at the newly-opened Atlantic Terminal Pavilion have been panned for being excessive — but who would have thought they exceeded even the NYPD's anti-terrorism guidelines? StreetsBlog reports that the barriers are both bigger and closer together than the security measures suggested in the NYPD's report "Engineering Security: Protective Design For High Risk Buildings."
Other NYC Arrests Expected In Terrorism Case
The investigation in an alleged terrorist plot by a former lower Manhattan coffee vendor may bring some more arrests. According to the Post, "A 'handful' of men in New York are possible associates of the chief suspect in an alleged plot to bomb commuter trains -- and now are under surveillance....The men being watched are no longer considered dangerous because the plot was disrupted, an official said."
Terror Suspect Zazi Pleads Not Guilty
Najibullah Zazi pleaded not guilty to a single terrorism conspiracy charge in a Brooklyn federal courthouse yesterday. The 24-year-old former Queens/current Denver resident is accused of plotting to bomb NYC, after an investigation revealed he bought large quantities of beauty supplies that can be used in bombs and backpacks (meant to carry bombs) were seized in a Queens apartment.
Obama Thanks NYPD For Zazi Work
Who cares if the NYPD might have screwed up the federal authorities' investigations of suspected terror suspect Najibullah Zazi? According to Daily News sources, President Obama called Police Commissioner Ray Kelly to express his "appreciation and admiration" for the NYPD's work in stopping Zazi and for the NYPD's security during the U.N. General Assembly.
Bomb Scare At Union Square
A few hours ago, police locked down East 14th Street and Union Square East, due to some "suspicious packages." (Not surprising, especially given the alleged recent terror plot.) Before the packages were eventually "cleared" by the cops, some folks Twittered about the incident:
Investigators Searching for Bomb Factory in Terror Plot
Though the NYPD and federal agents say they've "successfully disrupted" an alleged terror plot targeting public transportation in NYC, officials are still uncertain whether more suspects remain to be captured. There's also the question of a bomb factory or an explosives stockpile, which would obviously have been an indispensable part of the plot. Four "anonymous government sources" tell Newsweek that more suspects (perhaps over a dozen) are being sought, and investigators are urgently searching for the explosives. Hopefully, the NYPD will be a tad more discreet from now on.
NYPD: "No Specific" Terror Threat To Make You Crap Your Pants (Yet)
As the authorities continue to investigate the alleged terror attack plans on "places of amusement, immorality, and sin" as well as "vital economic centers," Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has been trying to assure New Yorkers that the NYPD is on top of things as always, saying, "There is no specific threat. In a post-9/11 world, we're concerned. We do more than any other city in the world," and "Our operating premise is that the city is the top of the terrorist target list. That there are always those people that want to come here and hurt us." We guess that's why more raids were conducted yesterday.
